How do I find and change the fuse on my electric dryer?

One day it worked fine then the next I tried to dry and I pressed the button and it hesitated then died. It might be the fuse but we cant find it. Its old as hell but I dont want to buy a new one if I dont have to.|||Electric dryers usually don%26#039;t have their own fuses. The circuit that it is plugged into would have a fuse or (more likely) a circuit breaker in your panel box, probably in the basement. Look in the panel box for a fuse that is burnt out or a breaker that is tripped (that is when the switch is in between the on and off positions). If you find a blown fuse or tripped breaker you can replace the fuse or reset the breaker but you will have to find out why it failed in the first place. Call a technician. This is not something you should fool with if you don%26#039;t know about this stuff. |||Most likely the problem is with the timer or the motor itself. You can have it repaired, but is it worth it? A new one will be much more efficient, which will save you time and money. It%26#039;s a decision only you can make, but age is definitely a factor. Good luck.|||I have an electric dryer and it has it%26#039;s own fuse for the heating element. It%26#039;s located next to the heating element. Check to see if you have a blown fuse at the fuse box or if a circuit breaker has tripped.|||buy a new one :(

How hard is it to change a fuse box in a 95 Pontiac Grand Prix?

There are some friends of mine that have a motor route (newspaper delivery) and a piece of the fuse box melted and they have to replace it. How hard is it to replace? and How long on average does it take? and is it easy enough anyone can do it? I would appreciate help, thank you.|||THE UNDER HOOD ONE IS NOT BAD AT ALL I CAN DO IT IN ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF. IF NO WIRES ARE DAMAGED. IF THERE IS WIRE DAMAGE THE LOOM HAS TO BE CHANGED TO AND COULD TAKE UPWARDS OF 14 HOURS! GOOD LUCK|||REALLY HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!TRUST ME I%26#039;VE TRIED IT! DON%26#039;T TRY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1|||Very hard! Trust me because I have tried it!

How do I change a fuse on a haines hunter boat?

the boat was going yesterday but then just died. No electrics now so presume a fuse has blown but dont know where they are.|||Usually under the steering wheel there%26#039;s a panel (or it may be open) where the fuses are. It may run along the side, where the wires are.

How much does it cost to change the fuse for a cigarette lighter in a car?

I have a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer, and the cigarette lighter in my car, I believe has a blown fuse. I was wondering how much would it cost to replace it, and if I would be able to do it myself. Thanks.|||Fuses are very cheap, and replaced easily. Fuse box should be under the dash. Replace the fuse only with one of the same or lower amps. A higher amp fuse could possibly cause a fire.|||a pack o fuses cost about 4 dollars. But there are usually a couple of spares in your fuse box|||find the fuse and put it in///////|||Most fuses are super cheap, under a dollar perhaps. Check your user manual, they%26#039;re really easy to replace, too.|||about a dollar... and if you can get down under your dash where the fuse holder is you can change it yourself...|||fairly straight forward get to the fuse box lid you will see the motif , although it may be the lighter unit itself is everything else working things like the interior lamp horn etc as these item,s usually are on the same fuse

What would be the best way to change a fuse panel for a 1992 Ford Explorer?

My girlfriends fuse panel is fried, and needs to be changed. Any ideas on the best way to do this? And are there any other things I should know about before doing it?|||Probably best letting an auto electrician do it.

Does cruise control on a 2001 Honda Civic utilize a fuse?

A couple of weeks ago my cruise control went out ... it doesn%26#039;t work and the light no longer illuminates on the dash. I%26#039;m hoping that it is as easy as changing a fuse ... but I see no documentation of this in the user manual.|||you need to have both the master switch ON and the steering wheel set switch pushed in to engage the cruise control. My guess is that you accidently turned off the Master Switch when you were dusting off your dash or otherwise hit the switch by accident.

The master switch is located on the dash board to the left of the steering wheel between the steering wheel and the door. When the switch is ON there is a green LED that lights up on the switch when you have the ignition key turned ON. If the light is out with the igntiion key ON, the switch is not turned ON. Push the switch in to turn it ON. That should also turn on the light on your instrument panel that says Cruise Control.

I think its that easy.

Hope that helps|||Yes look in the fuse box under the Dash.

It may be marked cruise / ACC|||check your brake light switch on the brake pedal. check the adjustment, and if its white then replace it. it is $9. very comon on those.

Is it ok if i put wire in a spoiled fuse to prevent from changing to a new one?

I accidentally spoiled the 3 amp fuse by breaking the wire in it into half. I dunno where to get the buss type fuse so i just insert a wire in it and fix it back to the speaker fuse jack and it works... Just wanna know will it make any damages?|||Yes...you can. But it is not advisable. The fuse is there to protect from overload from CURRENT.

If you NEED to do this....you can...but only for the short-term. The fuse MUST be replaced.

You CAN seriously damage your equipment!!|||You certainly WILL! Turn it off and replace it .

It%26#039;s got a vacuum like a light bulb. No dice, won%26#039;t blow properly like it should. It SHOULD, too...that protects it! If it blows a lot it needs repair!

You blew the fuse and it%26#039;s not the least bit repairable...Go to Radio Shack or some other electronics store and get more. I%26#039;ve even found them at Home Depot! It%26#039;s a 3AG/AGC type.

Don%26#039;t use less and especially more, as less with blow faster and more and MORE won%26#039;t blow right or at all and can harm the set.

I got a 1969 Pioneer receiver, top of the line that year (SX-1500T) at the auction and I found it there with a 12 amp car value (same type and size) that somebody had decided would keep it from blowing. Surely enough, 30 seconds with power at my home and BANG! I had to get the output stage repaired...not fun and thank goodness it was repairable, as it%26#039;s a nice set.

DON%26#039;T OPERATE WITHOUT ONE!|||The fuse is there to prevent damage from excess current. By replacing the wire you have changed the fuse%26#039;s maximum current and an over-current may cause damage to your equipment.

It will most likely work for now but I would suggest getting a new fuse soon.

How Can I Change a fuse for my rear wiper for a Nisssan Quest 1995 ?

Where excatly do I put the fuse for the rear wiper motor for my Nissan Quest 1995? Is it in the back of the Quest? Or is it under the hood?|||The fuse you are looking for is to the left of the steering wheel, behind an access panel. The interior fuse box , fuse #15 is for the rear wiper, it should be a ten amp fuse. When looking at the front of the fuse panel, it will be the second fuse from the bottom on the right side row of fuses.|||Not 100% certain, but it should be with the rest of the fuses. Check the diagram or your owner%26#039;s manual.|||It might be under the hood...but i have noticed a lot of smaller cars have the fuse box in the glove box.|||Break out your owner%26#039;s manual (usually in the glove box) and find the section on fuses. Once you find the section, it will tell you where your fuse block is.

If I had to venture a guess, it will be either under the hood, or under the left side of the dash.|||under the hood there should be a fuse pannel...on the cover of that there it should say what fuse is for what...take your wind shield wiper fuse(its for both right and left on front and back)and look at the 2 metal pieces see if its bet or burnt.them shake to see if it rattels...if it does rattell u need to get new fuses...most cars have extra fuses in a box near the pannel when you buy them.if not undere the hood then on the the passenger side where your feet go...good luck and messege me back...

How do you change the fuse in a flourescent light?

I have replaced the bulbs and the light will not work. Hubby says fuse needs to be replaced but I dont know how to do it. And he wont do it for me...always at work or too tired! Thanks for your help!!!|||Fluorescent lights do not contain fuses. They contain a device called a ballast, which is a black brick-shaped device with a number of wires coming out; these occasionally fail, and can be replaced: new ones cost $10 to $20, depending on type. But a more plausible failure point is the starter, which is a small aluminum cylindrical can-shaped device, about an inch long and 3/4 inch in diameter. NOTE: many fixtures do not use starters, as the necessary functionality is provided by the ballast. But if yours does, try replacing it: turn the device about 1/8 turn to the left, and it will come out. It will have a designation such as FS-4 on it; get a replacement with the same designation. Starters are cheap. If replacing the starter does not work, or there isn%26#039;t one, replace the ballast: remove the old one (cut the wires that go to the lamps about in the middle of each wire, and unscrew the wire nuts that secure the black and white wires to the power supply) and take it to the hardware store for a suitable replacement. To install the new one, you will need some wire nuts to connect the wires from the new ballast to the old lamp socket wires.|||remove the lights, the fuse is round made of metal, unscrew it Turning counterclockwise, replace with one same type.|||Just unscrew it and take it to a hardware store and buy a replacement fuse and go home and screw it back in.|||Not all fluorescent fixtures have fuses. Most modern fluorescent fixtures only have ballasts and sometimes starter capacitors. Since you have replaced the bulbs you can eliminate them but you probably should take the ballast out and go to a good hardware store and ask a knowledgeable associate for help. More than likely it is the ballast that has failed.

Look into other options also. Often a new fixture is a cheaper option than replacing the ballast. Keep your options open.|||A fluorescent light does not have a fuse. Older models have starters. The starter is a small silver cylinder that has 2 prongs on the end that makes the connection with the light. Just twist counterclockwise and remove. Replace it with the same starter. The number of the starter is stamped on the side, such as FS2, etc.|||Why not just replace the fixture and be done?! Fixtures are so cheap these days!|||There is most likely no fuse in the light itself. Plug something else into the receptacle to check and see if the circuit breaker or fuse is blown. A radio works well for this. If there is power, the circuit is good and the problem is with the light fixture. If the circuit is dead, find the electrical panel. Unless you are in a really old building, the circuits will be protected by breakers rather than fuses. If there is a fuse, the blown one will be identifiable by finding the one with a visibly open conductor (look through the glass in the center). Unscrew it and replace it with a new on of the same amperage. If it is a breaker, on some types the lever moves to the center when tripped. Move it to the off position to reset (usually towards the outside edge of the panel and then turn it to the %26quot;on%26quot; position. If the light fixture is the problem, it is most likely the ballast. You can get a replacement at the hardware store (get the exact lable information from the old one). Unplug the light or turn off the circuit at the panel. Unhook one wire at a time and reconnect the new ballast|||Probably a bad ballast. Shame on Hubby for not taking care of this for you. Replacement of the ballast is very simple because all wires are color coded.

I drive a citroen saxo and everytime i try to put a new fuse in for the horn it blows instantly?

i have the ignition turned off completely when im changing the fuse so this is doing my head in and i have my mot in the summer so will have to get it sorted soon. any ideas why its doing this and how i can stop it happening?|||Your horn must have a constant live feed. If this is the case you have got a bad earth on your car. The easiest way to rectify the problem is find the negative side of your horn and make up a patch lead to go between the horn and the car body. Failing this you need to buy a new horn.|||1st disconnect the terminal from the horn, then try a fuse, if it blows your horn is ok, but would think you have a bare wire somewhere between the horn %26amp; push button|||Sounds like a short circuit somewhere. You need to check all the wiring to the horn.

I have a 2003 dodge neon, i have fuse issues with the car.?

The dashboard light up with a fuse warning. I changed fuses and the warning still lights up, the fuse powers my radio and interior lamp, they now don%26#039;t work, also the guages on my dash go haywire when i start the car, but go normanl after a few seconds, i need help!|||your ignition off draw fuse is blown or missing. it is in the panel inside the car. look in your owners manual for location number. all of your problems are because of this single fuse.|||The previous answer is correct. You may want to buy a Haynes or Chilton manual to help you understand it better.|||check for a blown fuse for it, the owners manual gives numbers and tells what these fuses do,this can be caused by a bad ground wire sometimes, but on that one i think you,ll find a blown fuse for the lights, good luck.

How long does it take to change a fuse box to a circuit breaker box?

My house has 100-amp service, but with fuses instead of circuit breakers. I would like to change the fuse box to a circuit breaker panel. There are 12 circuits plus a 240V for the range and one for the central air.|||This is not a DYI job.

It takes an expierenced electrician to do it right and up to code a min of 4 hours. This includes new everything from the meter down. Also grounding to two ground rods and bonding the water system. (and in some places the gas pipe)

A lot of times, if you are going to even get into the meter socket (box) you will need to replace that too. In my area that is free from the power company.

Don%26#039;t be cheap on this one. Pay an electrican to do it.|||Takes me about 3 hours for 1 this size. Sometimes you run into right much woodwork though due to panels being different sizes. Most newer panels are bigger and framing needs to be reworked. Also, some places will not allow replacing the panel without upgrading the service to bring in line with current codes. I wouldn%26#039;t recommend it as a DIY job, but I don%26#039;t know your skills.|||mine took 2 days (actually 3, but one day was for new drop and basically upgrade from 100 to 200amp). because old box was no up to code, so it was turned into a splice point aka junction box and all circuits had to be relocated to the new area of the basement all together. Considering I had 26 circuits it was quite a job, not to mention concrete drilling and etc to put conduit. Basically rewiring a box is not that big of a deal it%26#039;s how convenient and easy for the new panel mount.|||It depends on how much difficulty the electrician will have removing the old panel and then installing the new one. 4-8 hours for an estimate. The circuit change is the easy part, the panel and the feeds and the different circuits take time to do it right.|||4 to 8 hours, depending on difficulty. This is not a DIY job! Call a licensed professional, or don%26#039;t do it. Insurance company will not honor a claim if you do it yourself and burn the house down.|||Seems to me you are wasting your time and money. If you don%26#039;t need to upgrade your service amps, there really isn%26#039;t a good reason to go to circuit breakers. You still have all the same inherent dangers of an old two wire system.|||A good electrician could do this in about 4 hours. If your going to do this yourself, tell me were and when I want to watch.

How to change open the Fuse Box on a ford puma?

I have a Ford Puma 1.7 2001. I need to change a fuse for the window wipers. I fuse box is located just underneath the steering wheel a bit to the right hand side. How do you get to it without breaking anything?|||pull out the bottum of the plastic pannel / holder on the right hand side of the steering wheel

you should see where you put your fingers to pull it out

there is also a fuse box next to the battery under the bonnet|||never heard of a ford puma.

My car stereo died after changing my battery. The fuse is fine. What could it be?

Last week I was driving my newly purchased 1994 Honda Accord and the battery started dying. I went to the auto parts store, they verified it was the battery and not the alternator, and I bought a battery, which I replaced right there. However, the radio isn%26#039;t working now. I replaced the fuse, thinking it may have somehow blown, but it still doesn%26#039;t work. Any ideas if the radio may have somehow shorted out? Thanks.|||I think you have to punch in the security code into the radio. It%26#039;s an antitheft measure. Ask your Honda dealer and check your car%26#039;s owner%26#039;s manual. Download your owner%26#039;s manual free here:

Changed fuse for rear wiper but air bag sign is on.?

I have a vw polo 2005 1.2 s model.

The rear wiper stopped working so got the fused changed and now find that the air bag sign remains on. it goes off for a second or two and then comes on and remains on.

The garage said may be because the system has still to recognize that the new fuse. The car is only 40 months old.

any ideas?|||The bag sensor has detected a fault, probably because of the fuse being changed, the car will need to be plugged onto a VW computer to have the air bag light put out.

Common fault.|||First off, you need to find a new garage. Changing the fuse for the rear wiper has nothing to do with the air bag light coming on. The light comes on because the %26quot;Prove out%26quot; test has failed and the computer is warning you you won%26#039;t have an air bag in case of an accident. If you live in a state that does inspections, that%26#039;s an automatic fail. Take it in to VW and get it fixed.|||The drivers seat has probably been pulled right back and disturbed the plugs and wires for the seat belt pre-tensioner.

Try unplugging and re-seating the plugs.

Power wire of my sound systems that connects the battery to fuse hit a bolt, then sparked & now car wont start?

I was changing a fuse in fuse block which protects the amp from surging back into the battery. While the fuse block was unscrewed i accidentally dropped the side that directly connects to the battery and the copper tip the touchs the fuse created a ciruit between the battery and the bolt the started sparking. After that my car gives me a single click and refuses to start. Please Help, could it be the starter?|||Fuses! Look for a fuse (probably large) that%26#039;s blown. Troubleshooting: If the problem is difficult to find unhook the battery for a few minutes to let the computer reset, unhook the aftermarket stereo wiring and reconnect the battery the same way the car came from the factory. If the car starts, great! If not check fuses or even for burnt wires.

The starter is fine.

Changing a fuse on my car?

ok i drive a 2004 saturn ion, sedan.

and my front right light/ turning signal won%26#039;t work.

my dad told me it%26#039;s probably a fuse but i don%26#039;t know how to change it. i know where the fuses are.

and i don%26#039;t know what kind it needs?

any help? thankyou!|||More than likely the bulb is burned out. Stop by an auto parts store and they will probably change it for you if you buy the bulb from them.|||find your cars instruction manual it should be in there, check the light bulb to make sure its good, its not always the fuse|||on the fuse cap there should be a diagram of the fuses with names. i think it says trn sgnl... for turn signal... pull it with the supplies pliers and snap a new one in, usually a car already has extras...|||I believe there is only one fuse for the signal lights, so if your left signal is working, don%26#039;t bother looking for or changing the fuse. You need to change one of the bulbs. Is the front turn signal showing light but not flashing, or is the rear one showing light but not flashing.

The one not lighting is the bad bulb and needs changing.|||is right rear light up but dont blink it not fuse it bulb go to shop be nice iam sure some will put it in for you cheep like $5or10|||all fuses have a num on it u just remove it an replace on the cover of the fuse box is a diogram of what every fuse it to make sure its the rite one an if your signal light blinks real fast its the bulb dat whent out|||I have to agree with Frankie. It%26#039;s a bad bulb. If it was a fuse none of your turn signals would work. Your owner%26#039;s manual will tell you what type of bulb to buy and may even show you how to change it. Good luck.|||Most likely is the bulb itself and not the fuse. Check whether the bulb is blown first by looking for any broken wire. As for the fuse box, just look at the cover and it will tell you where the fuse is.|||Actually if it was a burnt out bulb it wouldn%26#039;t be the turn signal (which is the DRL amber light on the ion) AND the headlight. The fuse should be in drivers compartment otherwise it%26#039;s the fuse box under the hood. If that doesn%26#039;t fix the problem it%26#039;s probably the headlight harness itself (it%26#039;s a %26quot;multi harness%26quot;). If you can%26#039;t do it yourself take it to autozone and one of the guys will probably do it for you for free (plus the cost of the fuse).

How can I test if household fuse is still working?

I got a second hand lamp and it didn%26#039;t work even when I changed the bulb. Then I tried changing the fuse in the plug, but the fuses I have had at home for years may be old ones, in fact they may be dud!. Is there any way of testing them to see if they still work? Every time this happens I buy new ones but the ones that are left over go in the box with the others and I don%26#039;t know which work and which don%26#039;t! Yes I know the system I have is useless, but if I could just test them all!?!|||take a 9V battery ant put it on ur toung then bridge it w/ teh fuze and see if it still tickles ur tound, if theres no tickling u got a busted fuze|||You can buy a fuse tester at the hardware store for a few bucks.|||Take the fuse out of something you know is working !!|||lick it

after you buy life insurance|||Fuse tester costs hardly Rs 30/- in any electrical stores. Or the ol%26#039;school way of touch and feel works 100% :)|||get something that is working properly...take good fuse out..then try old fuses out..ones that don,t work in the bin..ones that do..put to the side..|||find the nearest outlet and plug a lamp into that. then find the fuse circuit that connects to that plug. from there test each fuse. whatever fuse makes the lamp turn on place it back in the box. the ones that don%26#039;t toss it.

place the fuse in a dry area someplace easy to find and that it will not fall.|||fuses don%26#039;t get old and quit working. They%26#039;re either good or they%26#039;re not.

You should be able to look through the clear portion of the fuse and see if the filament is solid, or burned. They are designed to %26quot;blow%26quot; (melt) in the middle where they are the thinnest. If the filament is solid, the fuse is good.

If you have a second hand lamp that doesn%26#039;t work, plug something that DOES work into the same plug and see if that item works. If it does, then you may have a bad plug on the lamp, broken wire on the lamp, bad light socket on the lamp or even a bad switch.

Maybe that%26#039;s why it%26#039;s second hand.|||yes some screw drivers have a fuse tester built in xx|||Swap all your suspect ones, one at a time in the plug of a lamp that you know is working. If the lamp works the fuse is ok. Throw away all the old ones, and put the original back into the lamp plug. Make sure that you use the correct fuse rating, usually 13a brown and 3 amp red, but also 2/5/10 amp are available. Make sure they are good quality, they should be marked BS1362, and the amperage.

You can also buy a simple fuse tester in most electrical shops or Maplins, only about 拢2.00|||first make sure the light bulb is working then test your fuses by putting them in the same plug if the light does not come on discard that fuse and put another one in the plug if it works put it back in your box do this with all the fuses you have, no matter if they are 3 or15 amp. its only a fuse test when you have finished make sure you only use a 3 or5 amp for the light, 13 amp for all other appliences central heating is also only 3 amp and that is important.|||Test the fuse in something you are sure is in working order.

I took a lamp to bits one day, changed the fuse, the plug, and rewired the top bit, only to find out the new bulb i had used wasn%26#039;t working!!!! LOL|||There should be a clear window in the fuse, with a little gray band in it. If the band, which is the fuse, is broken, or burnt looking, the fuse is bad. If you don%26#039;t have the kind of fuses that have the band, take them to a hardware store to have them tested. It should be free. DO NOT swith fuses around! You may well blow them, or get hurt, if you choose the wrong receptacle. Next time, try to buy breakers that are used in the old fuse receptacles. And save up to get your electrical updated.

Best of luck!

Does anyone know how to change a fuse in a 2001 ford explorer sport trac?

Could someone give me a step by step approach to changing a fuse in my truck?|||Open the glove box with the owners%26#039; manual and it will tell you.|||well, is it a regular fuse? like in the fuse panel? if it is its real easy. Just make sure the truck is off, and pull the burned out fuse, most fuse panels have a puller included, but if yours doesn%26#039;t, anything will work, I use a pen cap, plastic, to pry mine out. They should be labeled, and make sure replace it with same amp and type of fuse. hope this helps.|||Check with the owners manual. There will be a fuse puller in the fuse panel cover. Just put it on the fuse, and press and pull. There are also extra fuses in the cover, so replace it with a fuse of the same rating. (They are colored coded) so make sure they are the same color. good luck.

Can a car fuse change cause a engine light to come on?

I have just changed my cd player in my car and I blew a 5amp fuse. I put a 10 amp fuse instead.

Now around 15 minuets after that my engine light lit up on my dashboard and it won%26#039;t go off. Could this be down to the fuse?|||not likey but could be how to install cd player|||First of all if you blew a 5 amp fuse why did you put in a 10 amp fuse? you do know that the wire load for the 2 is different right? If you just change the fuse size and not the wire size you are setting yourself up for a fire. Unless you tapped into a wire you shouldn%26#039;t have then the 2 wouldn%26#039;t be related however you didn%26#039;t say what the code is, so i can%26#039;t tell you for certain. Is the car running any different? the car could have run and failed a evap test, check your gas cap make sure it is tight.|||No it should not have set a code with the proper fuse replaced. But using a over size fuse can. There was a reason the fuse blow out. It was use more than the system was rated for. By using a larger fuse. You have over load that wiring set. It depend which fuse you tied into for the cd player. It depend how many amp this cd player takes. Use five amps are used for keep the computer a live when the vehicle is turned off. By adding a larger fuse. The computer could be get to means volts and amps. This will damage the computer. You need to have a computer test done. If what I have said, is true. You get a read of to much voltage or amps going to the computer. This will burn up the computer in time. There is one other thing that could take place. It could burn up the wiring and catch the vehicle on fire.|||PUT THE 5 AMP FUSE BACK IN!!!!! never ever ever just put a bigger fuse in to fix a problem. youre just asking for trouble. you have a short or something somewhere. FIND IT! after you have fixed that problem, check all your wiring for your cd player, make sure you didnt splice into any wires not related to the audio system. as for the light, that short probably tripped a sensor and brought up the light. have an auto parts store or a garage run a scan tool on your car to get a code and see what is wrong.|||Get that 10 amp fuse out of the fuse box and find your wiring

mistake. You should never up the fuse rating or you could wind

up with a meltdown..

Try disconnecting your stereo , replace the 5 amp fuse and check

your dash again..

Something was wired improperly...

Changing fuses to breakers?

Hi, Do I need to inform the electrical company if I need to turn off the power in order to change the panel from Fuses to Breakers?

My electrician says I don%26#039;t have to, he can just take out the meter and this will cause the Power to be off. The problem is that I think there is a seal on the meter and the electrical company will not like it that he took the seal off. Any electrician out there with Advice? Or someone experienced?

I appreicate your reply,

Thank you|||You dont have to tell them what you are doing. I upgraded my service, wasnt a problem...|||It would be a good idea to notify them before your next scheduled meter reading (it would be on your bill). They can put a new seal on the meter.|||electric company wont care

make sure this guy is a licensed electrician|||If the electrician is licensed, he%26#039;s authorized to do what he told you. But you were smart to ask for more info.|||Yes, unless he has some seals.. You must inform the elect co of such work being done...Dont let this guy get you in trouble..The elect Co. must remove that meter, it belongs to them NOT YOU...|||first off yes you need to tell the power co. what your doing. breaking the seal on the meter will get you cut off and fined.the power co can temp disco you for the work to be done then come back and reco you.your panel should be changed inside the house. get yourself a better electrician b4 this guy burns your house down!|||yes there is a seal on the meter outside (if he is a licensed electrician he can change the seal). You do not have to call the power company to turn your main off in the house. A liscenced electrian can open your panel and change breakers any time,

in some states if a electrician removes or replaces the meter he will call the the power company to come out to verify his work..

5 years ago I had a Electrician up grade my panel and replace my meter he took care of all that stuff it was part of his bid cost.|||The seal is meant for proof of non-illegal taping of electricity by your electrical company. Once broken, it is a violation and you may be subjected to a fine, a penalty or disconnection. You have to contact your electrical company to get their authorisation for their authorised installer to do it.|||In my %26quot;neck of the woods%26quot; if you dont inform the Power Company, they get REAL RILED UP about that!!

Your electrician has a %26quot;right%26quot; to tell them, or since you are the home owner, YOU had better inform them, or they may charge you a penalty, and accuse you of stealing electricity!

Besides upgrading your electric service, I would figure you would need a new drop cable, since your upgrading from a 60 amp, to either a 100 amp or 200 amp, you would need a thicker wire to hold more amperage...

I am wondering who you got for an electrician and if he has credentials, if he doesnt install a new service line...

I wish you well..

Jesse|||yea he%26#039;ll have to take the meter ring off if its the screw in type that doesn%26#039;t need a key he can just cut the little wire clip off an unscrew it an put it back on when hes through or he can cut hl%26amp;p or center points lines coming in to the whether head an that will kill the power and then he can kurny them back together after hes finished an tape it up real good with friction tape an then regular electric tape.he can use a fiberglass latter to work with the hot wires an as long as he don%26#039;t touch anything thats grounded he can work off this latter with hot wires with out getting shocked.this way he won%26#039;t have to cut the ring off.work with one hot at a time an tape the ends then you can change the panel while its dead!--sometimes its better not to tell the light co. to cut the power off cause they may want a permit pulled an only a master electrician can do that .big bucks then!!!if your electrician knows what hes doing let him but like i said if it has a lock ring on meter that requirs a key i would use the other method by cutting the service lines one at a time an when finished kurny an tape them back up let your electrician read this mail he should understand everything i%26#039;m talking about.|||yes you need to tell the power co.they will come out, disconnect until it is done, then reconnect that is the safe way|||In the state of West Virginia the only person allowed to remove a power company seal, is the power company. You must notify them and set up a schedule with them. Be sure that your electrician is licensed. I am a master electrician, been doing this work for 30 years.

What fuse handles brake lights on JETTA GLS VR6 and location?

Need help with circut breaker/changing a fuse.

We blew a fuse, installing a new light post. How do we find what fuse was blown when it is not labled. It is an outdoor outlet that was blown. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And how do we change it? |||If they are indeed fuses, you can look into them (most residential fuses have a little window) and see if they%26#039;re blown.

Breakers, if that%26#039;s what you mean by %26quot;fuse%26quot; generally will indicate they are tripped by the toggle lever being loose, so try gently pushing on each one as though you were going to turn it off - a tripped one should allow the lever to move further towards %26quot;OFF%26quot; than an untripped one.

When you say it is an outdoor outlet that was %26quot;blown%26quot;, are you sure it%26#039;s not a GFI (ground fault interrupter) outlet? If it is, that may be what needs to be reset. If a GFI keeps tripping on an outdoor installation, it indicates either a short-circuit or a leakage path to ground, so re-check your wiring.|||This question makes me think you may need to call an electrician.

But if you want to diy you will need a multi-meter so you can measure volts and ohms.

Before pulling a fuse check for voltage, when no voltage check for ohms. If no ohms, also called resistance, that is the blown fuse.

Be careful and good luck!|||What you can do is flip each switch and label them as you go...if you have a circut breaker that is easy to flip the switch, As for replacing a fuse..I do nto know how to do it. The only bad thing is you will have to reset the time on everything,

Hope I helped even if just a tiny bit|||Turn on the lights in the house...in all rooms. Have someone stay in the living area while you unscrew each fuse. When the light goes out, have the person in the living area let you know which light went out. If no light goes out, try putting a new fuse in and see if your light post comes on. That may be the bad fuse. Get a label and mark which area or room the light went out in, and tape it next to the fuse. Keep doing that, and eventually your light post light will come on. Mark that one too. If you do this, in the future, you%26#039;ll know which fuse to change when one blows. If its a circuit breaker, do the same as above, but you don%26#039;t have to unscrew it. Just flip the switch the opposite way, wait for a couple of seconds, and flip it back. It makes it much easier in the future if you mark the breakers or fuses with labels.

1 Turn the key on and try to start the car (it will not start)

2 leave the key in the on position and watch the security light after 10 minutes it will go off.

3 once the security light goes off turn the ignition off and wait 5 secs

4 Turn the key to the crank position this will learn the code but not start

5 turn the key off wait a few secs then try to start the car

Even if this does work you should still take it to a shop to check/clear any remaining codes.

Is it possible to black out a whole street when changing a fuse?

I%26#039;ve never heard of it happening, but if the big fuse that supplies the step-down transformer for the area is in poor shape, and you somehow short-circuit your home%26#039;s power line, and the circuit breakers that protect your power line are a bit slow, then yes, you could blow that transformer fuse and black out at least a few of your neighbors. These are a lot of %26#039;if%26#039;s%26#039;, and we try to take them all into account when we design power equipment.

I would have originally answered %26#039;no,%26#039; but a week ago the fuse on our power transformer blew for no apparent reason and blacked out seven houses.|||I would have to agree with 2n2222. It is possible, but not something that would be common. If in doubt as to the possibility, turn off the power coming to the fuse box. If the fuse box is such that there is that kind of concern then you might want to consider other dangers as well, such a fire from a faulty fuse box. Get the box changed for a more current circuit breaker box.|||Yes......if the fuse was wrongly oversized for an existing fault conditon|||Yes.

If for example that %26quot;fuse%26quot; is actually a main bus bar for the house, if you did not turn off all the stuff in the house, when you stick the bar in you create a sudden and large load on the system. For example, the motors of the refrigerator, air conditioners and fans all kick on at the same time and starting a motor is when there is greatest demand. If the system for that block is already maxed out, that extra sudden load can cause a main circuit breaker to cut out for that street.

It is also possible if you have a backup generator. If it is not properly installed, it may continue to run when the main line comes on and if it is not in phase with the power line, it could cause a circuit breaker to open.

But in general I seriously doubt it would happen with just replacing a single fuse in a house.

More in likely whatever caused your fuse to blow in the first place is related to the power failure on the entire street. Instead of the fuse replacement causing the street problem, the street problem caused the blown fuse.

Changing a fuse help please?

my fuse in the kitchen blew out. I have the old screw in type fuses. the one that blew out controls my fridge. It has a copper type sleeve on the end similar to a lightbulb and on the face it says 25T. But when i went to the store they only have a 20TL or a 30TL with the same copper sleeve. In my fusebox next to the fuse that blew out is also another 25T that controls from what i could figure out my front porch light, indoor wall outlit which has a lamp on it and the clock radio in my bedroom. I dont know wether to use the 20 or the 30? Would the 30 be too much amps and cause my house to catch fire or should I use the 20. I was so confused I bought both kinds and right now i am using the 20. so far so good. Also on the back of the box of fuses it says do not put more watage than is allowed in the socket or it can cause a house fire. But the front of the fuse says amps not wattage. Are they the same or different. I am so confused. Help me please.|||Always better to go with the lower amp rating when replacing fuses if they don%26#039;t have exact size of the old blown fuse. Now days 25 amps is sort of an odd size and the old type screw in fuse boxes are hardly used anymore, that is maybe why they didn%26#039;t have a 25. You can always take the 30 back for refund, or keep it to replace a 30 that blows-if you have an existing 30. Amps(current) are the intensity of the flow of the electrons being pullled through the wire to whatever device is using the electricity. Wattage is the power being used by the same device. Usually when you have to replace an electrical item it will have several different ratings such as an amp rating a voltage rating and a watt rating-that,of course, is what they have been tested up to and not to exceed.

Hope this answer help to alleviate the confusion.|||Never use a fuse thats rated higher then the one you replace or what is indicated on the panel. You can use the 20amp temporarily in the non critical fuse location and use the 25 amp in the kitchen circuit.

Then when you can replace the 20 with one of the same rating.

The 20t ,25t 30t, is just the current rating (amps) you need not try to calculate the wattage.

You may also want to save up your pennies and get your electric sevice and panel upgraded soon. Fuses were good for their time but are not the safest things.|||watts = volts x amps. Thus, a 15 amp circuit (typical in houses ) can carry 15 x 120 = 1,800 watts. On this circuit you could handle say 30 60w bulbs. An electric heater probably draws around 15,00 watts by itself.

Based on what you said, use the 20-amp fuse. This such be sufficient since higher capacity circuits are typically used for special applications like electric dryers.|||you can try this site: http://www.fuseone.com/|||old screw in type fuses are illegal

I blew a fuse in my garage, changed fuse still no power?

I was in my garage and I plugged 2 space heaters in an outlet. And the power goes out, so I changed the fuse in the garage. Still no power, I changed the ones in the house. Still nothing, I went to the hardware store bought brand new fuses and still no power. What could it be?|||If this is a circuit with GFCI outlet, especially if heaters were plugged into it, you may have tripped the circuit breaker on the GFCI outlet. Last year a cover for aq gfci outlet got broken off. A day or so later 1/2 of my garage power quit working. Nothing I did seemed to help. On a hunch, I replaced the gfci outlet, along with a new cover and everything started working. If the outlet is not a gfci, check to see if it is wired into a circuit with a gfci someplace in the line.|||Maybe it%26#039;s double fused, more fuses at the main panel?|||You may have to check to see if the range fuses are blown in the fuse box in the house or garage. The fuses that screw in are branch circuit fuses. There are two main fuses behind the plastic block above the branch circuit fuses. Pull on the D ring to pull out the block and you will see them. They are either 30 or probably 60 amp fuses. One of these is probably blown.|||Unplug the heaters! One of them could have a short. Use a flashlight and check every receptacle for burning. (also smell them for a burned smell) the chances are that the fuse saved your house from burning down when a wire in the system fried. if you still cant find the problem, call an electrician to test the wires.

Why wont my citroen C2 start after changing fuse box? help?

The car is completely dead. Charged the battery up a bit as car lying in the cold for over a week. Lights, igniton etc came on before but wouldnt start so the AA told me I needed a new fusebox. Bought a new one and replace it now the car is dead, no light, ignition, nothing. Can anyone help diagnose the problem?|||You have run foul of a very common problem these days, so listen carefully.

Modern cars DO NOT have conventional electrics controlling them, instead they have a MUCH more complicated multiplexed digital electrical network controlling them. This is not unique to french cars either, you will find it in almost all European cars, this is why European cars have so much more technology on them. In fact the electrics on your car are mostly German! (Bosch)

However, most people (like your mechanic friend, the AA man and all the other answerers of this question [except Steve J]) are blissfully unaware that cars underwent such a radical change almost 10 YEARS AGO! And so these people continue to offer horrendously inaccurate advice (the AA man%26#039;s ignorance cost you 拢240) (if you listen to another answerer it will cost you almost 拢100 for a new battery)

Unfortunately because most people know even less about their car than the man offering the bad advice then they make the mistake of listening to him and it costs them a lot of money.

Now for the helpful bit. I specialise in modern car electrical problems and have been fully trained by Citroen, and have spent years successfully solving problems like yours day in-day out.

Firstly, your car has 2 fuse boxes, one is under the bonnet (PSF1) and one is under the dash behind the glovebox (BSI).

The PSF1 is the one that supplies power to the fuel pump, so i will assume that this is the fusebox the AA man said wasn%26#039;t working. He was very probably wrong (the AA have a few very simple checks they do that cover most common problems, and this is one of them. Unfortunately in this case the check verifies nothing as the system does not work the way they think it does. AA men are not usually skilled at %26#039;proper%26#039; diagnostic work)

On your car the various computers have to decide to turn the fuel pump on, if they decide that the immobiliser should still be armed then they will supply power to lights, wipers etc but they will not supply power to the fuel pump or engine etc. So a simple check can reveal the fusebox is not powering up the pump, but this does not mean the fusebox is faulty, it means %26quot;why is the fusebox not AUTHORISING power to the pump?%26quot; The fault will lie deeper within the computers, if i was able to plug a Citroen diagnostic tool into your car and interrogate it then i would be able to read hundreds of different parameters and from that information i could tell you where the fault lies (it will be something simple and fairly cheap, it usually is) Since i can%26#039;t do that you will have to bite the bullet and get the car to a GOOD Citroen dealership somehow.

The reason that your car is worse since you replaced the fusebox is because the fusebox is a computer that needs to be configured and programmed by Citroen%26#039;s diagnostic tool. Once this is done the fusebox will work correctly (although i suspect you will still have your original problem as the fusebox wasn%26#039;t at fault).

My advice is to swap the old fusebox back onto the car (much easier and cheaper than going to Citroen)

Remember, the only people that REALLY know about your car electrics are Citroen Consultant/Senior technicians, even a master tech for another manufacturer will not know the details about your Citroen. So it is always better in the long run to just take it to a Citroen dealer in the first place, at least then you will not waste hundreds of pounds on parts that will not fix it. If the dealer makes a mistake and replaces the wrong part you do not have to pay as it is their fault and they should know better. I know the dealer is usually more expensive, but with problems like this they will be a lot cheaper than allowing ignorant people the opportunity to compound your problems!

I hope this is helpful to anyone that reads this and has some sort of electrical issues with their car.|||just make sure your battery has life . but sounds like it could be ur start motor or maybe the coil |||You shouldn%26#039;t buy cars off the French. There not very good. Stick to BMWs or Audi. They are far better cars|||Sounds like you have a completely flat battery. Sounds as if you are in the AA, you pay them the money, why not get them out. Try and borrow a battery to put on your car or charge it up if it will take the charge. Very often when a battery is dead dead dead, it will not take the charge. If this is the case you can put a low wattage bulb in between the charger and battery. This will drop the rate of charge going into the battery and once you have about 12 hours charge at low rate it will then take a heavier rate.|||First you need a %26quot;Car Manual%26quot; for your car(for the electric circuits), 2nd you need a Voltmeter/tester to read %26quot;12 volts%26quot;,

Start from your %26quot;Battery%26quot; and check 12v then at fusebox on the bigger wires.

Hope this helps.|||Get your battery load tested, you have a main ignition feed fault---make certain that you have not failed to reconnect a wire to your battery live terminal after charging the battery and check your starter motor and starter solenoid connections|||There might be a crazy situation in the Computer Module..look for a RESET Button in your Owners Manual..I believe in some American Cars the electrical system is in a ALWAYS ON STATE...at least by some standard..a circuit always functions..if you KILLED the whole CAR--you may have SHUT a embedded SWITCH-down..//..you may need a special TUNE-UP Analyzer to find the BREAK..useing that Connector Module INSIDE the CAR..I think you shut down a RELAY-switch in the dashboard..//maybe//you broke a connection without knowing it..get a good light and search the wiring.|||you will need to get the unit programed in at Citroen cause by the sounds of it you have changed the bsi unit which is under the dash with the little fuses and a few square plugs

The dealer will probably help you with this, I can%26#039;t imagine them even charging you anything if you just go there and ask for some quick help in finding the fuse. Did you buy the car this way?

Anyway, I found your owner%26#039;s/service manual on the Dodge website. It looks like your blown fuse might be in cavity 19. It is a 10 amp red fuse. Pull this one out of the box, using tweezers or pliers if needed. If the metal link inside the fuse is separated, that means it%26#039;s blown. Put a new 10 amp red fuse in there, close the box properly, and you%26#039;re set to go.

If that fuse *isn%26#039;t* blown, you%26#039;ll have to check other ones till you find the one that is blown. Your manual says that cavity 29 also supplies power to your stop lights. It uses a 5 amp orange fuse.

By the way -- I didn%26#039;t see %26quot;tail lights%26quot; listed in the fuse chart. Wrong fuse installed in home fuse box - lights don't work. How do I fix this?

I have a house built in the 1950s. It has a fuse box. I was changing fuses the other night to resolve a problem and at one point I removed a 20 amp fuse and went to replace it with another 20 amp fuse - problem is I was holding a 15 amp fuse. When the 15 amp fuse got close to the 20 amp socket I saw a spark fly. At which point I pulled the fuse back, realized what I did and promptly installed the correct 20 amp fuse. All bedroom ceiling lights and regular outlets associated with this line no longer work. Is there a way to fix this? Note: This fuse box besides having fuses also has some large shotgun like shell %26quot;fuses%26quot; I guess. Thanks!|||Dear Sparky,

Old fuses are much like a light bulb. The only reason they do not emit light is that the element inside is designed to break contact instead of overheat and glow. The spark was not caused by screwing in the wrong %26quot;wattage bulb%26quot;. You screwed a light bulb in with the switch on is what happened. Perhaps turning off the switch before replacing the bulb is a good idea. Unplug or turn off all fixtures associated with that fuse. Replace the fuse again. Check the circuit. Still nothing? ... Shut off the main box (pull handle down) and then remove both stick fuses. * Prior to this purchase 2 new stick fuses - take one to a hardware store to make sure you get the right fuse.

Replace both stick fuses and also your 20 amp fuse with new ones.

* Have you added anything new to the bedroom circuits such as a space heater, or other appliance? If so unplug these and turn off the bedroom lights in the room where they went off.

Now throw the on/off lever back up on your main box and see if that solves the problem.|||Well, you have blown more fuses. The %26quot;shotgun%26quot; types - you describe (LOL)...... is really another fuse for your washer/dryer and or cooking oven /hot plates.

You have to replace them too. Check other fuses.

Replacing with 15 amp instead of 20 amp does not cause major damage - except that when you went to replace the fuse, the appliance was left on. So, it was sucking up juice worth 20 amp while your fuse blew when you had a 15 amp. No major damage done.

Check all fuses and replace as necessary. You are good to go.|||Call a qualified professional electrician, this is probably a bad cartridge fuse, but you may have some other very serious problems in the panel or in your branch circuits. This project needs an experienced, qualified professional to do the work. Since you still have a fuse panel, it may be time to consider a major overhaul to your system. The insulation on the wire from the %26#039;50%26#039;s does deteriorate over the years, it was designed for 30-40 years and it may need a complete upgrade.

Can my HID get brighter by changing fuse?

so recently i bought a HID kit cost me 80 bucks, 60 for shipping, 18 for the actual kit.

so it%26#039;s 8000k, plug and play,

my car is Acura 1.6 EL 1997

first week with these lights, they%26#039;re pretty bright and nice

some reason, they%26#039;re getting darker, and one side starts to have some %26quot;shaking light%26quot; problem, and i don%26#039;t kno why

i read the manual , they said can upgrade the light brightness by changing to the 20 amp fuse, and appearntly there is a 50 hours break in time, before it gets to the brightest point

so i wanted to changed the fuse, my friend helped me and he found out the one i have is already 30 amp,

so question is would they get brighter by changing from 30 to 20?

thanks everyone|||Lowering the value of the fuse will most likely result in no light, as the lower rating will open the fuse.

You may need to rewire with a larger wire from the fuse box to the lamps. A larger wire introduces less resistance in the circuit, allowing a greater voltage and current to reach the lamps.

See the link for an excellent overview of automotive lighting tech.|||probably just a poor set of ballasts or bulbs, the wiring going in can be minimal gauge, the wiring in the kit should be enough to power the bulbs.

The fuse will change nothing.|||no, its just for protection incase something would go wrong the fuse would blow instead of wiring burning up|||No.

Driving lights and dash lights dont work. indicators and brake lights DO work, tried changing the fuse....?

I think it might have something do with the signal lever seeing as it only seems to be the three lights operated by rotating the stick that dont work. Changing the fuse did not solve the problem... however the inside clock still works when the lighs are off but as soon as i rotate for the lights to come on the clock goes off!! and obviously no lights come on!

Indicators and brake lights still work.

Is this an electrical fault or is there something i have not thought to check yet?|||the first thing that comes to mind is. Make sure that the dimmer switch is not in the dimmest position as for the driving lights well like the last guy sed so rudely we need more info but may still not be able to help|||Your car/truck is WHAT YEAR/MAKE/MODEL?

We can%26#039;t read your mind.

Dishwasher turns off all sockets. Changing fuse doesn't help.?

When the dishwasher is plugged, no sockets work, and i have to flip the little switch on the electrics box.

I have changed the fuse, as this is often a common case, and i replaced it with a brand new same ampage one, still no luck.

what else can i try, it is full up of dirty dishes which are beginning to smell... oh yeah and I%26#039;m home alone... help!|||Hello Matt-Cox;

The dishwasher should be on a dedicated circuit, nothing else plugged into it, same as the refrigerator. The appliance is obviously drawing more current than your fuse can handle. This is a fire hazard and it must be inspected by a qualified technician.

Do not risk using a higher rated fuse, as this will make the fire risk greater.|||Your dishwasher is pulling to much wattage causing the electrical system to over heat which is causing your breaker to do its job and shut your electric system down. Big Fire hazard. What you could do is to unplug everything that is plugged into the electrical outlets that is being turned off when you loose power to your dishwasher. These items are all running to the same circuit breaker. (Coffee maker, toaster, maybe your air conditioner and anything else that you may have plugged in.) Plug in just your dishwasher and try it again. What ever you do, do not put in a larger size amp fuse. This will let your house wiring get so hot that it could start a fire. If your dishwasher is a portable one try plugging it up in a different outlet. Most of all before you let your house get stinky. Wash your dishes by hand.|||hi if its tripping the RCD it a fault with earth and neutral. if its the MCB or just a fuse then could be over loaded. it should be wired with 2.5 T%26amp;E on a 16A/15A fuse/MCB. if its blowing a fuse with 30A or 32A on it. this means its wired in with the sockets which is the wrong way to wire it altogether and you might need to get a new wire from ur electrics box(LOL) to ur dishwasher. could be a big job it all depends.|||The dishwasher is tripping the RCD (Double-width (green)? switch in the main board). It%26#039;s an electrical fault (damp, failed element, dodgy pump) in the dishwasher.

Wash up by hand until it%26#039;s fixed.|||yea what the last one said, only u%26#039;ll need a 13a fused spare above dishwasher to isolate it if you need to.

How does one go about changing a fuse?

do you just pop it out like a tooth ?|||sometime its best to unhook the battery first then jus pop it out and put the new one in|||basically thats all you do or else your car will have a tool for it and put it in the opposite of how you pulled it out|||Yoy aint gotta undo the battery, just pull it out and put the new on in,the fuse block is located under dash on drivers side to the left of the sterring colum.|||just take a pair of needle nose pliers and pull out the old 1 and take the new 1 and push it in where the old 1 came out of.

Can you Correctly sequence the steps in changing a fuse wire? EASY 10 points ?

a. Restore power from the mains

b. Switch off power at the mains

c. Replace fuse in the fuse holder.

d. Remove fuse from the fuse holder.

e. Replace fuse wire with new fuse wire of the correct amps. Don鈥檛 use the blown fuse as guide as it could have been the wrong one in the first place.

Will changing fuse make 1995 integra door lock work?

The pass. side door lock neither unlocks or locks. because of this the door will not open. is it possible i need a actuator?|||yes.. if one side works and the other doesn%26#039;t it%26#039;s either the wires to the actuator or the actuator itself. They are both on the same circuit, so one can%26#039;t work with out the other working if it%26#039;s a fuse problem.|||If your other doors lock and unlock then the fuse will do nothing. You may need to replace the wiring on that passanger door or possiably the lock.|||it could be 1 of 3 reasons. a short. the actuator. or a bad connection.|||sounds like a motor or yes, an actuator... maybe the switch in the pass door is burned up.... if your driver side lock is working, then it is not a fuse|||Find the fuse that makes that feature work and look to see if it is blown if it is then it is probably the problem|||It would have taken less time and expense to replace the fuse than to ask the question.

GO REPLACE THE FUSE and then come back if it still doesn%26#039;t work and ask about the actuator.
