Does anyone have a fuse box diagram for a 1990 Lexus LS400?

I just bought the car. The horn and radio didn't work..so I went to change some fuses.(replace old with new) Good news is the horn works! Now, 3 of my 4 windows won't roll up. The only one that works is the driver's side. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Does anyone have a fuse box diagram for a 1990 Lexus LS400?
Did you maybe hit the window lockout switch on the driver's door? Which fuse panel were you looking for- under the hood or driver's footwell? I have a '92 and just checked and both of the covers list what the fuse goes to. They should be the same- Gen1 M1, so if yours is missing, I can pull mine off and try to help. And congrats on the purchase!

  • Where is the fuse box for a 89 Mercedes Benz 260E? I need to change a fuse and Cant find the fuse box.?

Look under the dash, on ether side and lay on your back with a flashlight underneath the instrument panel. Or try under the seats, there should be a Velcro flap obscuring the fuse box under the seats.

Why is my AC blowing my fuses?

I have a circuit breaker, and my window unit keeps tripping the fuse. I have tun everything off in the house and I stills blows.

Can I change fuses in a breaker box?
Why is my AC blowing my fuses?
I'm guessing it's on a 15 amp circuit. The startup draw for many AC units is more then 15A. No, you cannot just change the breaker. Doing so makes the wire the weak link in the circuit, rather than the breaker. This leads to fires. What you need to do is have an electrician run a 20A dedicated circuit for you. If this doesn't help, look for a new AC that runs more efficiently. Hope this helps.
Why is my AC blowing my fuses?
you might can .the reason it's blowing fuses is it's pulling more amps than the fuses are rated for . could be a lot of different things causing this, such as freezing up cause the filter or coils are dirty and it's gettin too hot .could be the start capacitor .hard to tell without seeing worst case is compressor going bad.bout the only thing is to make sure the filter is clean , plus all ac's need to be cleaned at least once a year .hope this helps

Where is the fuel pump fuse on a 1994 Subaru Impreza?

I need to pull this fuse out before changing my fuel filter.

Where is the fuel pump fuse on a 1994 Subaru Impreza?
you do not need to pull the fuse to replace the filter, you will loose minimal fuel either way. just replace the filter and restart. you will be ok

i have done so mane fuel filters at home and in a shop over the years.

Will replacing a fuse in a panal fix a no start problem?

Our 88 Chevy Baretta would not start and has been shutting off when I change gears automatic transmission. My love, a chef not car mechanic, changed a blown fuse and is convinced that the car is fixed. Did this help? The ca has a missing motor mount, no radiator and many many miles. There is also a spark plug wire that is burned in half.
Will replacing a fuse in a panal fix a no start problem?
How in the hell are you driving a car with no radiator? If there is no radiator, then there is no coolant in the engine, therefore the engine is overheating and will blow a head gasket, warp and crack the head and block. Yes, replacing a fuse can make a car run, but it is not fixed. A shorted fuel injector wire will blow a fuse and make it not run. As for the shutting of when changing gears, I will assume you mean change gears from park to reverse or drive, and that is what happens when the Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid is stuck on. You have to replace the tcc solenoid in the trans to fix it.

OR BETTER YET, TAKE THE RADIATOR CAP OFF, OH WAIT YOU DON'T HAVE ONE! THEN TAKE THE GAS CAP OFF, IF YOU HAVE ONE ASSUMING YOU DON'T JUST HAVE A RAG STUFFED IN THE FILLER NECK, TAKE THE GAS CAP OFF AND DRIVE A NEW CAR UNDER IT.
Will replacing a fuse in a panal fix a no start problem?
A fuse can help fix it, but what caused the fuse to blow, thats the thing you need to remember.

ANd pretty much, the things you listed may have blew it. Shorts or grounding of the wires is my #1 reason on why fuses blow
WOW, your car need some help. The engine itself does not have fuses nor the does the starter. the motor mount and radiator are a very big deal. I'm suprised it been on the road at all.
Has this car been sitting for a while? I would recommend replacing all the spark plugs and the spark plug wires. They should not be too costly for your car, just go to your local auto shop (napa, kragens, etc...) and ask what ones fit your model and make of car. I don't see how your car could run without a radiator, it would over heat and eventually crack the heads that hold the valves causing water to leak into your engine. maybe it's air cooled, i doubt it though. I would get a radiator for it too, search online for one, they are not that expensive either and all of these replacements are bolt on. Make sure you put half water and half coolant in the radiator, otherwise you'll have bigger problems. Get an oil change and tranny fluid change too.
yes, that will help in your car he replaced the ecm fuse common in the chevy cars, but the spark plug wire that is in half could be grounding out, causeing the car to stall .that needs to be fixed.the motor mount is also a must fix,the reason you have no radiator is that your car is cooled by electric fans.

Where do you change fuses in a car? Do I have to take anything apart?

If you do not have the manual call a dealer and ask. This is the kind of thing that full service stations could handle easily but good luck in finding one with an experienced person. If a fuse %26quot;blows%26quot; then it could be indicative of a more serious problem. that is what fuses are for. If the new fuse blows right away or in a few days take it to a dealer. I have been a car owner for over 50 years.. gone through quite a few cars including two with over 200,000 miles and a truck for 14 years and I have never had to replace a fuse (but I could have easily). Good luck.
Where do you change fuses in a car? Do I have to take anything apart?
Well, if you consider taking a plastic cover off of the compartment taking something apart, then yes. I would look at the owner's manual, as some are in the car, while others may be located under the hood. They are little chips, if it's a late model car. They are easy to change, just make sure they are the same value as the ones you are removing. Good luck.
Where do you change fuses in a car? Do I have to take anything apart?
what type of car is it? they could be under the hood under your wheel on the side as you open the driver door even in the trunk of the car look in you owners manal to find them it will also tell you whats what.
Most fuse boxes are located under the dash or near the steering wheel. Should not be hard to replace --- may need tweezers. To be sure, go to the local parts house(Autozone, etc.) and get a repair manual for your Honda.

  • How do i change a fuse in a breaker box?

i have partial electricity and i think that is what it could be
How do i change a fuse in a breaker box?
    Since we can't see your fuse box, I will guess - if it is the older type of fuses that are round and have a glass top, if you look inside the glass area, there is a piece of metal. When the fuse is bad (known as a %26quot;blown%26quot; fuse) the metal will look burned and will not be complete/have a missing section. If this is the case, do this : (1) make sure you have the correct replacement fuse - they have different amperage ratings on them like 15, 25, etc (2) pull the lever to turn off all the electricity coming into the fuse box (3) unscrew the bad fuse by turning counter clockwise (4) put in new fuse, turning clockwise (5) turn lever on (usually up) ( 6 ) close box door (7) turn on lights, etc inside to see if your problem is solved. If not, then there may be a problem w/the electric outlet, which is a whole other topic :}

Should 13a plugs only be sold with a 3a fuse?

Most of them have a 13a fuse but most aplications need a 3a fuse. If a 13a fuse is in the plug a fire could result. You would only need to change the fuse for a few uses like electric fires etc. Check your computer now - bet it has a 13a fuse when it needs 3a. When will it catch fire and maybe burn your house down
Should 13a plugs only be sold with a 3a fuse?
I'd imagine that 99% of computers have got the correct fuse fitted as they come that way from the factory. The muppet that said a ELCB in the consumer unit renders the plug-top fuse redundant is talking out of their hat - ignore them.

Who buys plugs these days anyway? - Everything comes with one fitted.
Should 13a plugs only be sold with a 3a fuse?
My evil plan to cause fires all over the globe has been uncovered.. dammmmmmmmmmmm!
Come on how often has a house burned down because of a 13 amp fuse? I am sure it has occassionaly happened but exceedingly rarely and you neglect to mention electric fans, and any other items with a motor. Most houses in the UK should now have a main board with an earth leakage device which makes fuses basically obsolete anyway.
you can buy 13 amp plugs with a 3 amp fuse and 5amp fuse, if your electrical device is shipped out with a 13amp 5amp or a 3amp then one would assume it's the correct rating, the problem is usually when the fuse needs replacing and some ppl just put in any old fuse.
Many new electrical appliances come with a plug with the correct fuse.

Otherwise, it is good to check to be on the safe side.

You should also check the fuse for socket gang (I have a 6 socket anti-surge with a13 A fuse which is normal for 6 way socke gang).
a plug top fuse is determined by the appliance wattage size to work out the size of fuse you need divide the voltage into the wattage this will give you your running amps ie: a two kilowatt (2000w) heater in a standard house in the uk the voltage will be 230 volts 2000 divided by 230 equals 8.6 amps the fuse required would be the nearest above amperes 10a so the answer to your question should really be no it depends on what application it will be used for
Mine has no fuse at all, but there are no fuses in plugs here in Spain, for anything.
13A plugs should be sold with a fuse of 13A or if maked as fitted with lowe with the rating shown! a 3a fuse for a 3kw kewttel will blow immediately. however if the plug is sold fitted to an appliance it should be fitted and marked by the manufacturer with the most suitable fuse eg 1 or 3a for a light and yes 13A for a computer as they often power peripherals (the internal PSU has its own fuse)

Fuse panel layout for a 2000 chevy cavalier?

listen its not hard to pull a fuse look at it if its burned or blown replace with new one if not push it back in and pull another dont take ten minutes to pull one and look at all so really you dont need a layout just pull one at time and look at them not hard at all easy to see wire broken or it wil be a bluish color burned
Call your dealer you can get a replacement cover and/or an owners manual.

My drier runs but no heat at all. I changed not only fuse but power breaker but same problem. Do I need a new?

Unplug it before you do anything to it. Check to see if any of the wires had their ends burned off. In my life, I have seen this happen twice to good brand dryers. Good news, it is usually and easy fix if that is the cause. Clean your exhaust duct out regularly to improve efficiency. Good luck.
My drier runs but no heat at all. I changed not only fuse but power breaker but same problem. Do I need a new?
    Probably the heat coil
My drier runs but no heat at all. I changed not only fuse but power breaker but same problem. Do I need a new?
I changed a few of these but you will have to take the dryer apart the top should pop up with a screw driver take screws out of front panel on sides On the back of dryer is a cover plate where shaft on drum comes thru then take belt off drum that will expose the coil when you put the new coil in you will have to streach it out to fit the old coil usely burnt up if not use it to measure it out reverse every thing good luck. oh yeah check guides on drum before you put it back together they may be worn.
If the lint filter is full of lint, or the flexible vent hose is stopped up, or anything else blocking the flow of air from the dryer it will not heat. Check these first. Then maybe a thermostat.
before you buy a coil look at the heat unit it has a high and low limit switch ill bet the high limit switch is bad to test it unplug the 2 wires on it and tape the 2 metal ends together if it heats replace the switch
Unplug the dryer and inspect for damage and replace and broken of missing parts. If it could be dangerous for you or you don't know what you are doing you can call a repair man or buy a new dryer. I would rather just buy a new one cause you know it will be reliable and not break down.

  • Whats a general estimate on changing from fuses to circuit breakers on 100 amp panel, no changes to amps?

I would go with a 200 amp panel if I was you. Its not that much more and you will have more room to expand with. I do side jobs and if I was to change that out, as long as there wasn't any hidden problems the labor would be 250 to 300 bucks, plus the cost of materials. A contractor would be in the range of 1,000 to 1,800 bucks.
Whats a general estimate on changing from fuses to circuit breakers on 100 amp panel, no changes to amps?
Wisconsin: $500-$750 with an electrician doing it. There are possibly many other varibles tho that could take the price up to $1200. A electrician may come in a find other problems that need attention first.
Whats a general estimate on changing from fuses to circuit breakers on 100 amp panel, no changes to amps?
Since many places are unregulated, meeting code really doesn't matter to most people. This may sound unsafe, but their current electric system doesn't meet code anyways. So upgrading it, even not to code is an improvement.

Check Home depot, Lowe's they sell the panel with breakers in the $100-200 range for 100 amps.
if you buy the panel yourself anywhere from 350 to 700 or more depending on what the electrcians charge in your area...also you need to have the utility company come out when the electrician is going to be there to turn off power...if the electrician supplies the panel anywhere from 550 to 1000 dollars
You would be better off calling a local licensed contractor in your area.Every service is different and too many variable to estimate with the information you furnished.

ie: inside or out-side panel ?

under-ground or over head service ?

Labor and material prices differ around the U.S.

If I was changing to breakers I would go ahead and upgrade to 200 amp for future and resell value

any one even trying to price this shows their lack of knowledge and experience in the trade.

    Be-careful taking advice from DYI's
Greg w is correct. No one can estimate a job like this without seeing it. Call a couple electrical contractors in your area for a free estimate. Have it done by a qualified electrician and not some joe handyman hack.
I'm Sorry but in order to change you will need to bring the service to code. the minimun is a 200AMp Service.

You will need to replace the weather head and meter base, the pipe and the panel, along with the breakers and the wire.

Given the average home, the Meter Base, Pipe, Wire Weather head, Ground Rod, Panel and breakers will run you about $600.00 and then you will have about 6-8 hours labor depending on the amount of wiring and change over time.

So total would be about. $1000.- $1200 depending on where you live.

How do you change the inline fuse from the pos cable of the battery on a 1998 oldsmobile cutlass?

its very simple, just open the cover and pull out the old fuse, make sure you put the same size back in, close the cover. might need a pair of needle nose pliers to pull the old one out. thats all there is to it.
How do you change the inline fuse from the pos cable of the battery on a 1998 oldsmobile cutlass?
an inline fuse holder comes apart with a twist or a pull. a fusible link is a different story. you have to cut the wire at both ends of the link and replace it completely
How do you change the inline fuse from the pos cable of the battery on a 1998 oldsmobile cutlass?
Both of the above answers are correct but if it`s the type brian d mentioned where you cut the wire, disconnect the battery first to eliminate the risk of short circuit.

My radiator fans will not turn on, making engine overheat. I have changed fuses and actually replaced the fan?

I have replaced fuses and fan assembly. It's a 1999 Dodge Intrepid. A/C doesn't work either and A/C fan doesn't kick on.
My radiator fans will not turn on, making engine overheat. I have changed fuses and actually replaced the fan?
Sounds like the temperature sensor is not functioning. The fan only comes on when the temp gets to a certain point.
My radiator fans will not turn on, making engine overheat. I have changed fuses and actually replaced the fan?
I would take a guess and say it may be a relay( or more than one even) - see if there's an auto shop near you to diagnose it...might save headache and $$$
There could be a number of problems, wiring problem, sensor failure, computer problems also a possibility
Hi, Everyone is on the right track but hasn't explained how it works. Power comes from the battery thru a fusible link to a fuse box to a relay to the fan. The signal comes from the AC relay which turns a fan on regardless of engine temp with AC. Otherwise it comes from the coolant Temperature Sensor (CTS) thru a relay to a fan when the engine reaches a certain temp. If you don't have power to either it is either a power relay they both use or a fusible link. A test light will tell you which it is. Good luck..Geo

I assume that if I change the fuse it will work fine. am I correct?
Where is the fuse box in a 2007 Pontiac G5? Please help. The cigarette lighter isnt working.?
There are 2 fuse boxes in a G5. There is one on the inside of the car on the passenger side of the console %26amp; the other is under the hood. I looked at my owners manual for a '08 %26amp; the fuse for the auxiliary power outlets are under the hood marked outlets. If replacing the fuse doesn't work the lighter itself may be bad.

It is marked as %26quot;OUTLETS%26quot; ... there should be a diagram on the inside of the cover telling exactly where it is located.

The owners manual would have that answer. And no it may not correct the problem. It could be a loose wire or something.

How do you change a fuse in a chrysler sebring that has a block around it?

You're probably talking about an IOD fuse, which has a plastic keeper around it. That keeper is there so you can unhook the fuse, yet leave the fuse in place so you can hook it back up.

IOD stands for Ignition Off Draw, and it allows the computers and radio, etc to retain their memory from the battery power. It will prevent interior lights, power locks, keyless remotes, and radio from working (possibly more, too). You can unhook it to prevent the battery from going dead if the vehicle is going to sit for a month or more.

If I remember correct, yours has a hinged cover over the top of it. Use a small screwdriver to pop the cover open, which will allow you to change out the fuse.
How do you change a fuse in a chrysler sebring that has a block around it?
Most fuses are set in a %26quot;fuse block%26quot;, the fuse block has any number of wires attached from the rear. You can buy a fuse puller for a few cents or you can try a small pair of needle nose pliers. Be very careful if you use needle nose pliers, they are metal and metal conducts electricity in a vehicle's wiring system just like it does in a house.

What is a good price to pay to change over a fuse box?

I have the old style screw in fuses and want to change it over to a new box with switches ( obviously , you can tell I know barely nothing on this subject ). What would a good price to pay be? I have a small 950 square foot home if that matters. .... Thanks in advance for your help !
What is a good price to pay to change over a fuse box?
The best way to get prices is to get 3 or more quotes from licensed contractors. In the midwest the price ranges from 700.00 to 1,200.00

Can be more depending on the type of wiring and number of breakers needed.
What is a good price to pay to change over a fuse box?
its usually a good idea to say what country your in first...
Prices vary from region to region and from licensed electricians who do side jobs and company electricians. Get about three quotes and make a decision. Remember also that your electric utility will have to be involved as well even though the electrician will do all the inside work they will run the line from the pole to the house and charge you a flat fee plus whatever the wire costs.

Why do I keep blowing a fuse on my undercar neons?

I have a 20a connected but it keeps blowing. Should I go up or down or change the entire fuse holder? Or is it a different reason?
Why do I keep blowing a fuse on my undercar neons?
^^ It isn't a shortage. It's a short... which stands for short circuit. Which is the most likely problem if it isn't excess load on that particular circuit. The bare wire/solder would definitely cause the short circuit. Basically shunting the current to the body/frame. If you have it on a circuit with other things inside the car like radio or cig. lighter then I would say don't increase the fuse rating. That risks burning through the insulation on the wire that was only intended for a certain amperage and causing you even more electrical problems. A better solution would be finding out how many amps you need and run a wire from the battery with an inline fuse holder with the proper rated fuse for the lights
Why do I keep blowing a fuse on my undercar neons?
You can have a short or you may be overloading your fuses, check the power requirement on the lights and then check your owners maual to see what it says about electrical accessories.
Wiring problem your wires are grounding out somewhere. Check the wires over real good to make sure there are no bare wires anywhere.
You should probably check the amperage of your neons, then get a fuse that has that exact amperage. That way it is perfect.
you have a shortage or to many light bulbs on one circuit pulling to many amps
Just take them off and then you will not blow fuse and you will not look like a idiot with them.

My amp has a 40 amp fuse if i change the fuse by my battery to 40 amps will i get more power?

yes but if you do this it could come to life and eat your babies
My amp has a 40 amp fuse if i change the fuse by my battery to 40 amps will i get more power?
A fuse has a purpose; if you do what you propose, you will negate that purpose and turn your amp into the %26quot;fuse%26quot;, so that if there is an overdrive situation, instead of blowing the fuse, you will burn up your amp.

But if you would rather spend $2,000 than 75 cents to fix the problem, go ahead!
My amp has a 40 amp fuse if i change the fuse by my battery to 40 amps will i get more power?
fuse will just establish connection ina circuit. it will not boost power. pre amp will boost power.
Dude, this is one of the worst questions I have seen today. A fuse is only by the battery to protect the power wire! No, it will not increase the power in any way shape or form....

My car lighter will not work anymore, I have changed the red fuse but still nothing?
you need a circuit tester to see if there is juice in the wire that goes to the lighter and if there's juice there the lighter itself is bad and will need replaced.
My car lighter will not work anymore, I have changed the red fuse but still nothing?
check your fuses, maybe you have 'popped' the fuse for the lighter.

If unsure take the car to a garage and ask nicely and im sure the mechanic will have a quick look for free.
Sounds like you have lost it at the fusebox! Take that fuse and plug it into another %26quot;circuit%26quot; (called substitution). if the other circuit doesn't work now, then the fuse is blown! Sometimes fuses %26quot;look good when you look through them, and still don't work! Do not %26quot;swap%26quot; fuses (without new ones available) , unless you can drive car without that accessory, as --if you have a short in circuit,--- it will blow that one too! And of course if you have a short, - you need to find out where it is and fix it! It is highly unlikely that both lighter sockets would fail at the same time (the socket tiself), -- but they are both probably hooked up on same circuit!

If you can't find problem, I might be able to %26quot;walk you through checking%26quot;, - it depends on how much you know about stuff, and what you are willing to try! I do this with my daughters,- and grand-daughter! Grandsons too!
Your 12v accessory plug has a power lead that snaps onto the back of it. It may have fallen off. Another possibility is that the ground is bad where it connects to the car frame. Take it to a repair shop to check whether you have any power getting to the receptacle and if the socket itself needs replacement.

Another thought.... many non-smokers put their loose change in the ashtray. Check to see if a dime may have fallen into the socket.
don't cha know nothing know how. Get a meter and see if you can trace it out. Get husband or a boyfriend to teach you. Worst deal you would have to find another 12v line and run that in its place.

I have a 3 door 84 Buick lesabre limited, where is the fuse box to change the fuses 4 the headlights?

As far as I know, there are no fuses for headlights on G.M. The headlight switch has a built in circuit breaker. Chances are, the switch and wiring harness plug is burned out on your car, being over 20 years old. Also check the dimmer switch. Good luck..

I do heard a loud clicking from the console on the floor when I press the brakes. Could that have something to do with it?
I have a 95 EX honda The three brake lights do not come on. I checked the fuse and changed the blubs?
Under the dash, above the brake petal there is a switch it is what tells the lights to come on when you put your foot on the petal it is either out of adjustment or bad it can be a pain to get to and an even bigger pain to replace so hope this helps.

Where is the fuse box to change the fuse for the heater in a ford mondeo & how do you get into it???

I gotta Ford Mondeo and my fuse box is under/near the steering wheel on the left hand side. I think it depends on what year/model you have, as to where the fuse box is! Good luck.
Where is the fuse box to change the fuse for the heater in a ford mondeo %26amp; how do you get into it???
under the glove box, and there is like a kind of a button to push and then the fuse box will pull down enabling you to get to the fusses.
Where is the fuse box to change the fuse for the heater in a ford mondeo %26amp; how do you get into it???
    Hi

In the UK, the fuse box is behind the front passenger side glove box.

When the door is fully open, you put your hands up to the top rear edge and feel for a clip.

    Undo it on both sides.

The glove box then lowers all the way on its hinge.

You can now just pull hard to remove it completely.

The fuse box is now fully accessible.
Had an %26quot;R%26quot; reg, there were I think 2 fuse boxes. 1 under the steering column and another under the glove compartment.Better get a Haynes manual for your year.
fuse box is as everyone said under glove box,it,s green,30amp,..could be relay, same location,r14,,yellow colour,..take heater unit out of car, reach up and grip blower unit twist %26amp; it will come off,get some one to test it on a battery.if fuse is blown,it.s likely the heater unit is faulty
If you've got the owners manual it should all be in there.
Be careful when removing the glovebox as it may break if you use too much force. Consider using a long handled screwdriver and wedge it into the fixings, it makes it easier to guide the glovebox out. Fuses are right behind it. Very poor design.

How do I change the main fuse in a 1991 Mazda 323?
It is under the hood, inside the fuse box on the right side I believe. It is the 80 amp one.

Instructions say to disconnect the negative pole and that there are two bolts retaining it. if so they are either a 6, or 8 mm. I don't think they could be any bigger.

You have a bare wire touching something, somewhere. Finding shorts i no easy job.
Tail light and shift lock fuse keep burning out?
If you keep blowing fuses, there is SOMETHING wrong with the circuit the fuse protects. It could be a short, or a faulty component. Someone will have to LOOK at the car to determine the actual problem.

  • How do you change a 80A fuse on a 2000 miata?

i am a girl so i know nothing about working on my car. I know however that the 80A fuse is bad and i need to replace it. I know its under the hood and in the little fuse box. but how do i actually replace it??? is it bolted in? do i need to unhook the battery? How do i go about fixing my problem?
How do you change a 80A fuse on a 2000 miata?
Before you go any further WHY did an 80A fuse blow?

If it was something you did such as jump starting the car the wrong way then there's a good chance you may have some other components that are damaged. Get it looked at professionally so it doesn't start a fire or leave you stranded somewhere.

If you don't know why it blew, then don't touch it as it would just blow again to protect your car.

Otherwise, the 80A fuse is a large one, it is screwed in, and yes the battery should be disconnected when it is replaced AFTER the cause of the blow has been solved.
How do you change a 80A fuse on a 2000 miata?
You have no guy friends to help ya?? You need to look at the back of the lid to the fuse box. Trace down what fuse it is. It'll say 80A if it's an 80A fuse. Anyways look and see if it's got screws holding it in. If it's 80Amps it may possibly be a bigger fuse. If not then take some needle nose pliers and pull it out and replace it. No need to disconnect battery.
you gotta find out what the fuse blew, it probably touching metal somewhere, the 80A fuse are the special type of fuse, they aint cheap and can only get at specific locations, if you dont find out why the fuse has fry, it gonna keep on happening again and again, gotta find the source that trigger

How do you change fuse in christmas lights that don't have a little door on the plug?

How do you change fuses in a stove/oven?

oven won't heat beyond 300C - all fuses are 20 or 30 but now can't tell which I have replaced or which size should go where - does it matter?
How do you change fuses in a stove/oven?
    It matters.... a lot.

Your oven will have a nameplate that gives

    its rating.

The fuse should be the smallest thats a minimum

    of 125% of that rating.

If there's a problem with the oven, overloading

the wiring to it won't improve the situation.

(The above assumes that your wiring was

    correct to begin with.)
How do you change fuses in a stove/oven?
Fuse size is not relevant to temperature! Sounds like a bad or out of calibration thermostat! Good luck! ;-)=
There is no fuse in an oven, but if you are talking about the

fuse box or circuit breakers, it is always 50/50 amp.

Horn Fuse Keeps Blowing; It started with a stressed out Horn?

My horn fuse burns out every time I try to blow horn.

Its an automatic 97 Honda Accord SE.

Sequence of Events leading to the problem: -

    1) Security alarm went off and the horn was screaming continuously

    2) While I was trying to figure out how to disarm my alarm, at some point the horn stopped working

    3) After I finally disarmed the security system, I realized couldn't get the car to change gears from Parking to Drive.

    4) After some research, I realized that my horn fuse has blown off. (The same fuse is tied to rear brake lights. The car wouldn't let me shift gears while the tail lights are inoperable. Its a security feature I guess).

    5) Changing the fuse lets me shift gears and drive. But the fuse blows off the moment I press on the horn - And I am stranded again!!

    The wiring diagram :-

Fuse is serially connected to [ (a) and (b) in parallel ]

    (a) Horn Relay-%26gt;Clockspring-%26gt;Horn switch-%26gt;Ground

    (b) Relay Slave-%26gt;Horn-%26gt;Ground

    What happened? Any possible fix?
Horn Fuse Keeps Blowing; It started with a stressed out Horn?
A very strange problem indeed. I am not familiar with Hondas, but I would find it very strange for the horn and brake lights to be tied to the same fuse. If that fuse is preventing operation of your car then I would suspect a wiring problem of some kind (a bad ground somewhere as previously stated in another post is very likely). You may try disconnecting the wire from your horn(s) to see if that prevents the fuse from being blown when you try to honk your horn, then you know your horn is the problem. If that doesn't change blowing the fuse, then your problem is likely in the wiring harness where some bare wires may be shorting out somewhere, very hard to track down. Good luck.
Horn Fuse Keeps Blowing; It started with a stressed out Horn?
Check that ground. Run another one if you need to...you might want to run another ground just in case. Simply splice another wire and run it to a piece of bare metal connected to the car. Check for bare wires anywhere along the route as it could be a short. Electric tape works wonders in this situation.
check your battery terminal connections. I had the same problem with my 2001 Grand Prix. It has a aftermarket alarm system no it. If the alarm system is not getting enough power it will lock up the shifter so you cant get it out of park. A bad connection will also cause your alarm to go off. Clean the battery terminals and the cables off.

you should have a card with the code on - check your pack that has the service book etc in as it is normally there. If that fails pull the radio out you may find someone has wrote the code on it just in case they loose the card. If that fails contact the garage where you bought the car as they may have it on their computer. As a final resort book in to a ford garage (there will be a charge for this so ask how much first %26amp; get them to write code down in case it happens again)

    8. Took out fuse completely drives fine without fuse but still trips the same code. Cannot pass Illinois Emmision Testing with any codes activated. Is there a wire that is crossed or shorted somewhere. Or a different problem all together??

    PLEASE HELP!!!
98 pont bonneville codes for evap system, keeps tripping obd 2 fuse misc on ign fuse center?
Your going to have to get a diagram and follow whats on that circuit in terms of accessories. By installing the higher amperage fuse, the wire then became the weak spot and by smoking you now may have bare wire/s somewhere. A diagram of the circuit is a good place to start. Electrical 101 is to start tracing wires.
98 pont bonneville codes for evap system, keeps tripping obd 2 fuse misc on ign fuse center?
You should never replace a fuse with another of a higher amperage rating.Doing so can create fire and other damage. It sounds like you have 2 problems, one electrical and one related to the evap system. If you want to fix this yourself you need to examine the wiring diagram for your vehicle and check the circuits which are connected to this fuse for short to ground.

This car probably needs a new transmission, if it was just a fuse don't you think he would've spent the 10 cents to fix it? Theres no fuse that directly controls gear shifts.
What is the fuse called that makes the gears change in your car?
Mm. It looks like it's a real part.

    %26quot;There is an under-hood fuse box that houses several relays and fuses. The box is located under the hood near the battery. It has a cover over it, but isn't very big -- maybe 3%26quot; by 8%26quot;. The ERLS fuse covers the automatic transmission (as well as the backup lights, canister purge valve, canister vent solenoid, EGR valve, ABS, variable-effort power steering, and AC compressor). The fuse is a 20A mini-fuse. It should be yellow.%26quot;
Give your local Dodge dealer a call and ask to talk with the service manager. He'll know what you need to know. Just be polite and let him know your story and question and I'm sure he will be glad to help - been there, done that.
Don't believe that for a minute. If it only needed a fuse, he would of course put on in and get it working properly.

It very likely needs a transmission overhaul. Chrysler products, particularly from the 1990's are very troublesome.

Run, don't walk away from this car.
Even if it is the fuse, what caused it to blow? And was that problem fixed?
I agree with the first guy! There is no fuse that tells your transmission to shift gears. Your transmission is automatically controlled! Hence the name Automatic Transmission! It shifts by speed that you are traveling at. You can prove this by shifting the car into 1st, 2nd 3rd, drive then overdrive manually. If it does then it cant be a fuse. So yes this guy is B.Sn' you. If you can wait a few hours Ill call my dad he worked at the VanDyke transmission plant in Sterling Heights Michigan for 25 years. Ill ask him.

I think my Head unit is ok, do u? (Fuse Problem?
It could be or it could be like Steve said, but to me it sounds like your deck is screwed. I had a friend with a deck that did that and what ended up being wrong was somehow the ground and power wires reversed, so his yellow was somehow his ground and his black was a power, but also, the remote wire was reversed, it would turn the amp on when the deck was off and off when the deck was on. Sounds like it might be time for a new deck. Sorry man.
I think my Head unit is ok, do u? (Fuse Problem?
sounds to me like the unit is improperly grounded....check your grounds and make sure they are clean and connected
sounds like a ground problem like steve said, but you should also trace down your power wires and make sure there arent any cuts in them or anywhere that could be touching metal and shorting it out cuz that will blow a fuse everytime, hopefully you will find the problem in a wire and hopefully the deck isnt messed up.
If you see sparks fly and fuses constanty blow, there is definately an underlying problem. Yes, it is common for this kind of problem to happen with an improper ground. Make sure no part of your cd player or its bare wires are touching anything metal. In fact, there should be no bare wires. Also make sure that it is grounded well.

  • How does one prove damage caused by the power company?

As an addition to two of my other questions that are currently predominating my spare time,if the power company has problems with the people they are contracting power from on the high side supply transformer and are changing fuses (to which they admit when my father called), switching the power on and off for the entire region, and a person -my father- witnesses the result (the tower jumping, crackling and sparking) and then calls to inquire and it is verified that they are doing maintenance at the substation, can the power company be held liable for damages to the computer (motherboard, processor, power supply, hard drive and supplies used to recover data)? The power co.'s liability department/HR person wrote a letter stating that this had occurred, but that they are not responsible for the %26quot;act of god%26quot; caveat or other variations (pretty much anything). I'm maintaining that I think it was their maintenance not some unforeseen or unpredictable acts.
How does one prove damage caused by the power company?
You should contact a local electrician who can examine any damaged wiring or appliances and serve as an expert, and, further, assuming the electrician's analysis is the same as yours, explore suing the electric company. For that, you should consult a local attorney.
How does one prove damage caused by the power company?
    Three steps.

First, you need to prove that damage occurred. That's a matter of being able to demonstrate objective harm/loss.

Second, you need to prove causality -- the harm was the result of (was caused by) something the power company did or did not do.

Third, you need to prove either that the power company acted intentionally to cause that harm, or acted negligently by failing to do something that it should have to avoid the harm.
it's hard to prove it.......any outsider cabn look at this and will point the finger at the power company....but to go after them for damages you will need hard proof....like if you have that conversation taped where they say they were conducting maintenance

look for the fuse panel , usually it's under the dash, find the blown fuse and replace
How do you change the fuse for my car lighter? Is it located in the engine? Cheers?
Either consult the car's handbook in which you will find a list of fuses and the services they protect.... OR.... find the car's fuse box and on top of, or inside the cover will be shown the same information. At a guess, the fuse will be around 20 AMP to cover the current drawn by the car lighter socket.

If all the above fails, remove each fuse (one at a time) until you find the blown component - but make sure you look for the reason should it blow a second time. After all, you don't want your vehicle to catch fire!
Think about that for a second. Fuses are made to blow so why would they put them where they are hard to get to? Look on the dash, some fuses are under the hood in a black box...

Then you need to add up the total size of all the fuses in all of your amps, then use a slightly larger fuse in the fuse holder.

For example,if your fuses in your amp total 120 then you can use a 150 amp fuse.
What kind if fuse should I use for my car amp?
generally as a rule you would use a 10 amp fuse for every 100 watts your amp puts out. now most amps have room for two fuses so in that instance you would split the difference between the two. so for a 500 watt amp you would use two 25 amp fuses. i hope this is helpfull!!
Take your total RMS power, divide by your voltage (With engine running most electrical systems put out 14.4V or so) which will give you your Amperage.

    So say I have 3 Amps, a 200W, 500W and a 300W.

I add it all up and get 1000W, divide 1000 by 14.4 which gives me 69.4. In other words my Amps are drawing 69.8A, So total fusing on the main line should be 70A or a little higher.

Hi, have a 3 year old mondeo ( new type). Fuse box layout req.?

Hi, have a 3 year old mondeo ( new type).

Reversing lights gone, went to fuse box to change fuse but we have no cover on the box. The lid should tell you which fuse is which.

I have been on the web, but can only find the old type of fuse box ( more than 3 years old).

All the manual says is %26quot;look at fuse box lid to find correct fuse%26quot;.

Went out today to buy a hayes car book, but the new mondeo book is not due out untill June.

Can anyone help please by telling me which fuse it is, or even snap a photo of the cover lid for me?

    Much thanks

Hi, have a 3 year old mondeo ( new type). Fuse box layout req.?
wats wrong with either popping into ur local ford garage or call them ?
a common problem is the switch not the fuse the switch is located on top of the gear box you can see it by looking down between the battery and air filter housing
as per the other answer, usually the switch on the top of the gearbox, and also , most of the fuse you will need to look at if it is fuse related are located behind the glove box and not under the bonnet

  • How do I change a fuse box?

You don't!! You get a qualified electrician to do it. In the UK this is the law. Don't mess around with electricity, you'll be shocked!!!
How do I change a fuse box?
You should be able to suss it out from reading these pages-

    http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/consu >
How do I change a fuse box?
You get in a qualified electrician. It's illegal now to carry out work of this nature as a DIY job unless you comply with all building regs etc.
This is a job for a qualified electrician. If you must do it yourself you still need to have it tested and certified as safe for use by an electrician.
In the UK this MUST be done by a qualified electrician. With respect it should not be attempted by the handyman.
Assuming you are in the U.K you can't do it yourself unless you are an accredited electrician and from your question you obviously aren't. New regulation forbid any electrical work, other than simple things like changing bulbs, plugs or replacing sockets or switches with similar items. Any other major work must be done by an electrician an the job certified. So start getting a few estimates.
I'll go with the electrician answer!

    A good rule is: %26quot;If you need to ask, you need help%26quot;

Electricity is the greatest cause of fires in the home. That's why these Q%26amp;A on the subject really scare me some times.

Some times with electricity, what might seem logical may infact be terribly wrong and dangerous.
If you are in Uk you need, by law, to use an electrician for this work and if you are not you still need to use somone who knows what they are doing or you would not have asked the question
Despite previous answers it may be done by a DIY-er, provided that building control are notified in advance and it is done to BS7671 standards. (England and Wales)

In practice, most people will need to call in a competent electrician to do this work. Expect to pay absolute minimum of 250 quid. Repairing faults and latent defects in the installation can easily double that figure
Pauline you would still need to get it passed by a certified sparks ( part p regs )
Unless you are a qualified electrician, don't.

You could negate the insurance on your house.

Changing an old boiler and updating fuse electical panel?

    Upgrading electrical and boiler system?

Need help! I need to know how much approixmately and any challenges or other useful info. Looking at buying old house, almost 100 yrs old. It has the old electrical system with fuses, I would like to have that changed. Is the house not up to code if I don't? Could i do it myself? Also it has a very old, very huge boiler system, I beleive it is natural gas. Should I just change it to a new boiler system? Nothing fancy. Anyone know the cost of that, work involved? Could I do that myself legally? Thanks to anyone who can help me.
Changing an old boiler and updating fuse electical panel?
Sounds as if you are in the UK. If so, you cannot touch the gas - not even plug the oven into the gas supply - without being Corgi registered. It is illegal.

Your electrics should be replaced. If you don't know a small local trusted firm, ask your friends and colleagues. Then ask the contractor for names and addresses of people he has done work for.

It is a case of priorities - and budget. But personally I would sooner have plenty of power points in every room than an expensive carpet in the lounge. That can come later. If you get the carpet first, it will have to be moved when you update your electricity.

Remember, once the rewiring is being done, then power points work out at a couple of quid each. So get as many as you can, on as many walls in each room as you can afford.

And get some placed at waist height for the vacuum cleaner. No excuse to bend down to the skirting board nowadays.

And your old boiler could be copper. Think of the scrap value when you budget.

    Good luck.

My sony 40inch wega hdtv KV-40xbr800 has no power. is it a blown fuse? and how do i change fuse?

You may have i it depends on TV how to replace fuse but have you tried a different plug for the TV and then check the breaker in the house. I recommend you also get a serge protector at best buy for your Sony it helps so you don't blow a fuse.
My sony 40inch wega hdtv KV-40xbr800 has no power. is it a blown fuse? and how do i change fuse?
Unless you have the manual with detailed instructions on that, I would get a pro to do it, because you could blow yourself to who knows where.

95 Grand Cherokee Cigarette Lighter Fuse Keeps Breaking?

I own a 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the cigarette ligher had not been working for some time so I installed a new one that I picked up. However, the 15A fuse in then small fuse box located on the passenger side continues to blow. I have changed the fuse several times and each fuse breaks. Is there any solution?
95 Grand Cherokee Cigarette Lighter Fuse Keeps Breaking?
Of course there is a solution, find the short and repair it.
95 Grand Cherokee Cigarette Lighter Fuse Keeps Breaking?
    a relay needs changing prehaps?
You have wires not grounding out somewhere or wires/connections touching causing the fuse to blow. You may need to take the trim around the cigarette lighter off, follow your wires and make sure all wires are covered.
run the hot wire from the lighter to where it,s hot all the time and put a in-line fuse between the hot wire.

Why does the 60amp fuse of my heating unit keep failing. I have changed the fuse 4 times in the past 4 days.?

Why does the 60amp fuse of my heating unit keep failing. I have changed the fuse 4 times in the past 4 days. Please can someone tell me what to do other than calling an electrician.
Why does the 60amp fuse of my heating unit keep failing. I have changed the fuse 4 times in the past 4 days.?
Probably faulty heating elements. You are going to have to call a heating co. if you don't know what you are doing. Sorry.
Why does the 60amp fuse of my heating unit keep failing. I have changed the fuse 4 times in the past 4 days.?
You may have a short circuit in the heating unit itself. Or check the rating on the unit. If it is rated at higher than 60 amperes it will draw too much and blow the fuse.
its over loading, something in the heat unit is causing it to overload and blow, make sure all the wiring is tight and not burned, check the fuse box for loose wires,do you have alum. wiring?if so i be willing to bet its loose wires
D2 has a good answer here. If it has just started happening the first place I would look is the tightness of the connections. If you have something loose it causes more draw on the circuit when it is in operation since the loose connection will heat up.
Do the fuse holders make good connection to the fuses? If the fuse is loose in the holder, the poor connection will generate heat and heat is what causes the element in a fuse to open.

How long will the heater run before the fuse blows?

If it will run for at least an hour of continuous use, you most likely dont have a short to ground but it may be possible that part of the heating element is shorted and drawing more current than it should.

If the fuse blows fairly quick, this indicates a serious overload which could either be a shorted element or a short to ground.

Ideally, you would use a clamp-on ammeter to measure the current draw (should not exceed 48 amps on a 60 amp circuit). If the current is OK, then I'm back to wondering if a poor connection at the fuse holder is causing the trouble. Aside from the spring clips that hold the fuse, the wire connections to the holder could be loose and causing heat.

After running for a while, the fuses would probably be warm to the touch but not hot.

  • Replacing fuse box...can anyone tell me how much it would cost?

to change my old fuse box for a new one. My present one is about 30years old and I think it needs replacing. Lights fused last night and it was the devils own to change the fuse..I believe more modern ones indicate the fuse that is blow. Am I right?
Replacing fuse box...can anyone tell me how much it would cost?
the modern ones do not blow but trip out, so you just switch them back on, however they are expesive, my consumer unit as it is realy called is fuses and I would not part with it for the world, the new units trip out at the slighest thing such as a bulb blowing, they often trip due to strip lighting and washing machines even though there is nothing wrong, I am an electrical engineer and thus have considerable experience, personally if you have poblems with your fuses just buy a few spare fuse holders etc and at your leisure rewire them with the fuse wire ready in case you need them. by the way if your house wiring is 30 years old the chances are you could well need a rewire. you really should have your wiring checked every five years. Lots of the guys doing that kind of work insist you change your consumer unit (fuse box,) if you do rewire then its best you do change it as it will be compulsary then.

If you are looking at a full reqire you are looking at anything from about æ‹¢600 upwards in to the thousands.

for a new consumer unit (fuse box) an electrician will buy it for about æ‹¢40 plus vat and each trip in it will be about æ‹¢25 ( each trip is what they call a way, each way is where each of your fuses are now so if you have say a six way consumer unit you have six fuses in it. so six times æ‹¢25 for the trips and about æ‹¢40 for the unit, then there is labour to fit.

I hope I have been of some help

remember your fuse box as you call it is the house holders insurance against fire really for the fuses go before damage is done. thats the theory anyway . Take care
Replacing fuse box...can anyone tell me how much it would cost?
Well modern fuse boxes, don't use fuses. :)

They have trip switches, so if one goes you just flip the switch back up.

    How much it cost?

    1. Can you Do It Yourself?, if so -%26gt; not that much.

    2. Get someone in, well how long is a piece of string.!
I doubt you can even BUY a fuse box anymore.

You will have to go to a circuit breaker box. they have magnetic

trip switches that you put in them. I think you will need a licensed electrician to do that work because of insurance problems, plus it has to be certified before you can sell your house.

not sure about that last part. better check that.

    tom
It can get pretty costly replacing an old fuse box with a circuit breaker system .Ask around you may find someone who does it on the side ...Check Homedepot.com or lowes.com for the cost of circuit breaker box . Modern breaker trip off like a light switch
To change an old rewireable type 'fuse box' to a modern 'split' consumer unit, with e.g. 8 circuit breakers and an RCD for sockets would cost appx. æ‹¢170.00-250.00 + vat. Depends on the brand of equipment and other things that may be reqd. for example upgrading of earthing and supply tails to meter. Not really a diy job, especially in England with Part P regs.
Hi, you'll need to fit a RCB/D consumer unit. A split one ( with the breakers is about æ‹¢100. labour is a day if there are no problems - æ‹¢150

Bear in mind that RCD with earth leakage may uncover earth leakage problems in yuor house that a fuse box will not find, you'll need to wait and see. These are often where the neutral is touching earth somewhere, or your shower/imersion/cooker element. But once they appear, they will need fixing as the RCD will trip out ith these faults.

Good look, house wiring should be changed every 20 years so its about time this was looked at as well, you can do the job seperate to the consumer uit at a later date if needed ( normally co-incide with when you want to redecorate.

You cannot change the consumer unit ypurself (unless you know how to comply with part p ) , this is now notifiable work under part P regulations. Your local planning office can give you more infor about their part p planning requirements
It sounds like what you need is a distribution box with circuit breakers. They trip off when they detect a short circuit and can be reset when the short is gone.

The cost is dependent on the size (Amp. Service) and installation.

Please get some expert advice. All it takes is one mistake around electricity and it could be your last.
We had someone come give us an estimate to replace ours. The estimate about $2,000 in Charlotte, NC. Of course anytime you call someone out of the book, you get a ridiculous estimate.

Have a Panasonic head unit in my car, where is fuse located?

Panasonic head unit won't power on, for the past few days it wouldn't turn on and I figured I'd check the fuse first, but I don't know where it is. I took the face place off but I figure it's behind the whole unit? How do I get it out to change the fuse?

P.S. I'm a 17 year old girl and I'd rather do it myself then taking it to audio express, etc.
Have a Panasonic head unit in my car, where is fuse located?
What model Panasonic? What kind of car? Did you install the HU yourself? Did you recheck all the wires?

Edit and/or answer and we can help you more.
Have a Panasonic head unit in my car, where is fuse located?
    I dont know
The head unit will need to come out. you need special 'keys' to do so. They come with the head unit new or can be purchased seperatly from somewhere like halfords. when you slide the head unit out, the fuse is plugged into the rear of the unit. Hope this helps :)
Usually there are two latches on either side of the unit. You'll need something thin and perhaps slightly slanted to pull it out.

it has a little plastic clip on it that i never has seen before.
How do i change a fuse in my 2001 durango that has a little lock type device on it?
You should be able to mash the clip together and it will release, now if it has the plastic clip stuck throw it you should be able to just pull the clip out then remove the fuse.
How do i change a fuse in my 2001 durango that has a little lock type device on it?
It may be an Air Bag fuse, sometimes they put these on fuses that power Air Bag systems.

It may be a %26quot;shunt%26quot; fuse that powers the basic interior functions. Vehicle manufacturers use these to keep the interior options disconnected during shipment, but we just push the fuse in on the PDI.

Should have tabs on the side you squeeze and pull it out.
I believe what you are referring to is yellow plastic clip. Its just a clip to hold 2 fuses together when pulling. Manufacturer find this easier to parallel fuse the circuit then to use high amp fuses.

I have a dyson DC04 hoover and it wont turn on, have changed fuse but no look, any ideas?

    Buy a new one?

Perhaps the motor has burnt out or something. Brushes on the motors do wear out by design. If it is old, just get a new one rather than messing around with diagnosing it and ordering new parts.
I have a dyson DC04 hoover and it wont turn on, have changed fuse but no look, any ideas?
The wire under the on/off button on my DC01 was pretty flakey. If you look at the back where the wire goes in there is a removable panel. Remove it and check the wiring. If not get a new on/off button, which sits under the external on/off push from a dyson spares shop. They cost about a pound. It that doesn;t fix it it's probably the motor, but it'll only cost you a pound to find out......

Oh and of course before you remove that panel, please unplug your Dyson :)
I have a dyson DC04 hoover and it wont turn on, have changed fuse but no look, any ideas?
Nothing against earlier answers. Before you try anything else try running somethig else from that socket.Good luck
I don't know what else an average owner could do them self, I'd recommend taking it to a repair shop that has more experience and the tools for repair. Since as far as I know, Dyson has not been on the market long, the machine is probably relatively new, and Dysons are very expensive, so simply replacing it may not be a good option. You might try this web site: http://www.dyson.co.uk/aftersales/help.a鈥?/a>

Your question brings up an interesting point about how people use certain words, Hoover is the name of a company making vacuum cleaners, as Dyson is the name of a another brand, since Hoover has been around a long time, some people use it as a generic term.
    We have a Dyson DC01.

We had an intermittent connection due to a break in the wiring of the cable near where it enters the Dyson.

  • How long do recalls last on vehicles?

I have a 2002 chevy trailblazer, the tail brake lights will not work after changing light bulbs and changing fuses. I saw where they had a recall in '04 but wondering if I can still turn mine is as a recall? The top brake light works.
How long do recalls last on vehicles?
    Permanently... Recalls are forever.

Recalled vehicles are tracked by VIN. One scan into computer and they have a record of whether recall was done on your vehicle or not, and you don't be charged if it is indeed a recall item.
How long do recalls last on vehicles?
Recalls are forever, until the problem is fixed. Go to the nearest Chevrolet dealer and have them run your VIN to see if your vehicle is listed. Recalls are specific to vehicle by VIN, not general.

How do I know which fuse to change in my car?

I own a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria and the bright setting on my headlights does not work and the cigarette lighter does not work. I know that it is because one of the fuses ir burnt out but how do you know which fuse is used by those two things? I do not have an owners manual so I cannot look there..
How do I know which fuse to change in my car?
A light tester will do the trick. On the back of the fuse there is two little metal pieces. with the ignition on both sides will light up the light tester. The fuse that is blown will only have juice on one side.
How do I know which fuse to change in my car?
Fuse box covers usually show a diagram of what fuses are assigned to.
You can sometimes see the burned out section in the fuse..and sometimes you cant. Try making a test light with an old light fitting or even just a globe with two short wires soldered to the terminals on the globe. Then you can use the test light, running the wires from the car battery and putting the fuse 'inline'. If the fuse is good the light will glow and if the fuse is bad the light will not work. Take the fuses out one at a time so you don't mix them up and test them out of the car for safety.
Pull off the fuse box cover and look at the inside. It has a circuit map of all the circuits printed right there!

Replace the fuse with the same color/capacity fuse.

    Easy!

    Good luck!

My fuse in my corsa for the window wipers keeps blowing?

after the snow and frost we had in england my window wiper fuse blew this morning as i turned it on...this eve i have changed the fuse 3 times and every time i put a new one in it just blows again and again running out of fuses and the window wipers are stuck up.... what can i do to stop this blowing im using the same fuse (30) as that was the fuse originally in it?
My fuse in my corsa for the window wipers keeps blowing?
The wipers will be drawing more and more amps if they are stuck and are trying to move until it exceeds the fuses capacity and blows it. Make sure you fully defrost them with de-icer or be patient with de-misting your windscreen before attempting to turn them on.
My fuse in my corsa for the window wipers keeps blowing?
make sure the wipers are not stuck to the windscreen with ice.

once they are clear, switch the wipers to park position and replace the fuse. switch on the ignition and it should be fine. if it is still blowing the fuse there is a problem in the system.

It could be a problem with the motor or the wiper mechanisms so best to get you local garage to diagnose it if you are not sure what you are doing
are the blades frozen on too the sreen or is their any sow or ice stiil on the screen jamming it up go make sure its all clear and that the blades can be lifted off of screen then try again
I'd suggest that the mechanism is frozen or seized. 30 amp seems a big fuse.

  • I am going to change a fuse subpanel to a breaker sub...?

The main panel is a 200amp breaker coming into house which was built in 1939. The house has 2 copper wires going to each switch, no grounds. Question: one person told me to get a Murray breaker box, another told me to get a Cuttler Hammer. Is there a difference between any of these boxes, are there any that I should avoid? I will be using an electrician.

    Any info is appreciated.
I am going to change a fuse subpanel to a breaker sub...?
The electrician will usually supply his own material. I don't care for Murry panels, to cheaply made. I use Square D or Cutler Hammer. The Cutler Hammer BR is a very good panel and the breakers are reasonable. Square D is very high quality but pricey. Both breakers can be bought virtually everywhere. Email if you have more questions.

Be wary of untrained and unqualified people. Especially those pretending to be electricians. Lots of both on yahoo.
I am going to change a fuse subpanel to a breaker sub...?
Sounds good. I use those panels more often than any other in houses. You won't need a main circuit breaker. A lug panel will do it. There is no rule against having a main, but it is not required.

Your electrician can help you decide on panel.

Cuttler Hammer is good but the breakers are pretty expensive. Murray i havent seen too much around here but they use cheaper breakers.
i am a electrician. i use murray. cutler hammer is more expensive. they are good quality but i would use murray because a few years down the road when you need a breaker you can get a breaker for that panel just about anywhere, verses cutler hammer you might have to go out of your way to find it or the electrician you change to from when you had it installed is no longer around or doesn't use cutler hammer.

just about any hardware store Carry's murray. murray been around since the late 1890 sometime.

    good luck
Your electrician will probably have his favorite brand to use since he will have to warranty the work or at least should. I prefer Square D QO series myself and most customers like the trip indicator to tell which breaker is tripped. Probably my second choice would be Cutler Hammer.
Square D's your best buy for sure. And there common. Cutler Hammer is more expensive and not really better. Murrays a dinosaur, right up there with Federal Pacific
seimens or square d is the way to go you can buy combo packs with the majority of breakers coming in th box

Need help changing a heating fuse....?

Hi, I need to change the heating fuse in a 1995 chrystler LRS... I saw 17 fuses inside and some outside.. Does anybody know just where the fuse is located in the car?? I am completely lost on this...Any help would be so appericated....
Need help changing a heating fuse....?
the heating fuse is under the dash board on the driver side.

look in the middle of the fuse and see if the wire is gone.
Need help changing a heating fuse....?
look up the drivers manuel online. they usually have all that information
In most cases there is a legend telling which fuse controls which circuits printed on the lid of the box. Just read it. If not, check the manual. Or test all 17 fuses until you find a blown one. If a test light lights on both sides of the fuse it is good. If not it isn't and needs to be replaced with one of the same value.
I don't know where it is, but I'm sure someone will answer. But... can you give more info about your problem???

Is the blower motor not working? How do you know its the fuse?
Take the top off the fuse box. It should have all the fuses named and/or labeled. Each fuse box should have this inside the top cover.
you should have an owners manual that came with the car ,it should tell you where to locate the correct fuse.if not try calling a place like advanced auto, them people are usually pretty helpful.

I have a Toyota Sienna (2003) and inserted an inverter into the cigarette lighter and it blew a fuse?
there may be more than one fuse. one in the dash and one in the engine compartment. Check in the engine compartment for bigger fuses that may have blown.

I have just changed a fuse in my car?

I have just changed a fuse in my ford galaxy car it was for the central locking, now since i have done that my petrol gauge is staying up and not moving, also the mileage used to be on display all the time, but now it goes on and off and the central locking is still not working.

WHY is all this happening after changing 1 fuse
I have just changed a fuse in my car?
If your car is pre 2002 then the central locking fuse is also a fuse for the instrument panel ,I suggest you check the fuse making sure it is the correct amp rating and that you haven't fitted a dud fuse. It may be the fuse blowing when you try to operate the Central locking , if so best to get it checked professionally.
I have just changed a fuse in my car?

If you did and you replaced the fuse with a defective fuse or one with too low a rating that blew right away it would cause this problem. put back in the fuse you took out and see if the new problems go away. If the locks are on the same fuse it could be there is something else wrong with them
Seems to me that you disturbed the others in some way, ease each out part way and replace, it could be simply dirty contacts, its difficult to really know from here, try it.
a fuse can blow over time just by use, but the key function of a fuse is as a fail safe should something else go wrong and l suspect the original fuse blew because of that, just on what you say l would start with the fuel sender unit then see if that cures it if not then it may be best to consult an auto electrician who will have the expertise to find the fault

Ford puma keeps blowing ignition fuse why ?

puma ran fine today stopped at a shop turned it of my daughter put the stereo on when i was in the shop when i tried to start it the fuse had blown changed fuse car started fine why ???
Ford puma keeps blowing ignition fuse why ?
if u can look behind the fuse box to see if every thing ok and nothing burnt out there suffer with faulty fuse boxes dont worry if it is get a second hand one and a garage will fix it for about 30 quid

  • What fuse would you have to change in your 2000 grand am to get the running lights working?

My brake lights, and hazard lights, both work fine. However my running lights (the tail-lights that go on when you have your headlights on at night so people behind you can see you) won't work. I actually got pulled over about a week ago for this and the cop suggested that it was the fuse for my running lights. But I have been having trouble trying to find out what fuse to change searching online, and reading the manual. Does anyone know?
What fuse would you have to change in your 2000 grand am to get the running lights working?
just get a fuse checker and check all of them. the tool is less than 10 bucks and is a BIG time saver. you just touch the tool to he contacts on the fuse while it is still in the car and it will tell you whether the fuse is bad. best purchase i ever made for diagnostic equipment.

What is the fuse for a 2001 celica and where is it located?

im trying to change the fuse for the foglights but cant .
What is the fuse for a 2001 celica and where is it located?
    There are 2 fuses for the fog lights. one is a 15 amp fuse marked %26quot;FR FOG%26quot;

    and the other is a 10 amp fuse marked %26quot;HEAD RH LWR%26quot;

look for these fuses either in the engine compartment fuse block on the driver's side, or look for them inside the car, passanger side, left kick panel.

The (park) fuse keeps blowing for the gauges and tail lights on saturn sl?

I have a 1997 saturn SL. I checked the Park fuse (fuse that is in control of most of the interior lights and the rear tail lights) under the hood and it was blown. I changed the fuse. When I turned the engine over again, it blew that fuse too. What could the problem be and how could I fix it?

sometimes the tail light sockets melt and cause trouble in the circuit, check those first.

Where is the fuse on a 2001 toyota tundra for a trailer?

I need to change a fuse for the trailer because the lights r out on the trailer and toyota says it is not in the box with the rest of them
Where is the fuse on a 2001 toyota tundra for a trailer?
it is the same fuse as for the rest of the lights if your trucks lights are working and the trailer is not check the connector/trailer wiring
Where is the fuse on a 2001 toyota tundra for a trailer?
open the hood, look at the batt. there is one more wire connected to the batt. from the positive side... it has a fuse about 3 inches away with the label for the trailer hitch.... Toyo dealership installed there on my truck

I changed fuse but blinkers do not work?

if a blinker bulb is blown will others not work
I changed fuse but blinkers do not work?
No, they work independently. You'll just have to check all the bulbs to make sure they're all good, and take a test light to the bulb sockets to see if they're getting current.
I changed fuse but blinkers do not work?
They will all work except the bad bulb
change the flasher. if you have 1 that,s not working then the other ones should still work. i had 1 on the drivers side in the front that lit up but would,nt flash and it was the ground on the socket that was bad.
depending on what type of flasher you have, it might or it might not. i know that it sounds strange but turn the lights on (flashers) and walk around the car to see if you cannot locate a bulb that is out. on the old style flashers a single bulb failure would keep that from flashing. but with the solid state flashers, a single bulb out would cause it to flash faster than normal.

  • I recently changed all my outlets. When I put the fuse back in it blew immediately. What would be the problem?

I put in a 15A P fuse after changing all my plugs. One blew. None of the outlets prior to the changed were %26quot;broken%26quot; across the connection. Are there wires touching or grounding out somewhere? Thanks.
I recently changed all my outlets. When I put the fuse back in it blew immediately. What would be the problem?
You have done the obvious, a short in one of the boxes you were working in, hot to ground or hot to neutral. Or you gotten your wires crossed from hot to neutral on the receptacles.

Maybe shoving the wires back in the back a ground has shorted out as well to a metal box or a hot wire.

Needless to say you have to find that problem :

Hint start in the middle of the circuit and see what it looks like of you see nothing leave all your wires apart and replace fuse if it stays on then you know that the problem is in the second half of your circuit. If it does not then you know it is in your first half and either way you will know which way to look. Unless you have a continuity tester then you can check as you go to find the problem.

    Good Luck :)
I recently changed all my outlets. When I put the fuse back in it blew immediately. What would be the problem?
You either put a hot and a neutral together on an outlet somewhere, or a ground wire is touching the screws on the hot side somewhere in that circuit. If all the colors are right, hot and neutral, look for a ground wire touching.
You have a direct short on the line, you either miss wired an outlet or %26quot;skinned%26quot; a wire in the process allowing it to contact the outlet box. This will ground the circuit and blow the fuse. inspect your wiring and check that you don't have a wire touching ground.
Sounds like a short between live and earth or neutral. When you put the socket outlets back on you might have trapped a wire against the back box damaging the insulation and causing a short to earth. If you have a continuity tester try using it to track down which socket is causing the problem by process of elimination. If the fault doesn't show at all with a continuity tester on the whole circuit try an insulation resistance meter (which you should test the circuit with anyway after alterations). You will probably find a small area of localized burning on the cable where the fault occured. If you don't know what any of this means get an electrician to do your electrical jobs for you.
Usually, romex or BX cable contains a white, black and bare copper wire. The bare copper wire is used for a grounding wire and is attached at every metal box and the bottom of every outlet where a green screw is placed. You connect all white wires to white wire, all black wires to black then connect all bare wires together in a junction box. Run romex to the outlet and connect white to the chrome side of the outlet and the black to the brass side. Attach the bare copper wire to the outlet's green screw. You can run a white wire, black wire and bare wire from one outlet to another following the same connection rule as above.

Since outlets do not conduct electricity until something is plugged into them and turned on, the size of fuse would not matter. Any size from 15 amps or less would not blow. If any fuse blows it means that a white wire is touching the black somewhere in your wiring, either at a junction box or at the outlet boxes. Open the boxes and check to determine if there is a white connected to black wire or if the white wire is on the wrong side of an outlet. You may find a wire nut fell off the wires somewhere causing a wire to make contact with another creating a circuit. You may also notice that the insulation from a black wire is exposed as well as the insulation from a white wire. The two wires can touch also creating a circuit. These situations can be eliminated using electrical tape wrapped around the wire nuts and wire to prevent them from coming loose. Do not use masking tape or friction tape as they can conduct electricity.
Did you change the kitchen plugs as well and if so did you remove the tab between the hot side of plug since all kitchen plugs are known to be split receptacles--
