Bad Alternator, would that make the car keep blowing fuses?

Had a friend take this neon i'm wanting to buy to my mechanic who tested it because the dealer said it kept blowing this one fuse (#10?) and when it would, it would die. Well, the car died twice while my friend was driving and he had to keep getting it jumped off and changing the fuse etc. So, the computer said there was something wrong with the starting system and the guys at the auto store checked the alternator and battery and said it was a bad alternator. So, would that make it blow the fuse and what other damage could this do?
Bad Alternator, would that make the car keep blowing fuses?
A billboard wouldn't be a bigger sign NOT TO BUY THIS P.O.S.!!!! Wake up! If it was an easy fix, the dealer would have already done it! It's junk; don't buy it!!!
Bad Alternator, would that make the car keep blowing fuses?
the voltage regulator probably went bad, and thats part of the alternator on newer (fuel injected) cars. it will weaken the battery too as it will boil the water out of it.
Modern alternators commonly have the voltage regulator built in. It is possible that the voltage regulator failed and caused the alternator to put out too much voltage.

I had this happen on one of my General Motors cars. The alternator was putting out nearly 20 volts. But there should be some indication on the instrument panel. On my car, the electrical system idiot light was on bright red.

In the Neon, an idiot light should have been on, or the voltage gage should be reading high.

There is another possibility. The circuit that keeps blowing the fuse has a short going directly to ground. This would blow the fuse. The short that keeps blowing the fuse could have also damaged the alternator. This is most likely the problem.

You need to trace the wiring on the circuit that keeps blowing the fuse and find the short. Most likely a wire chaffed. But be warned, these can be difficult to find.
I would actually steer clear of this vehicle-and it takes a lot for me for that :(. If the car runs it is not the alternator. What is popping that fuse is a short somewhere in that charging system. Electrical problems are some of the most costly repairs. My mechanic charges $75 an hour. And tracking down a short can be very time consuming (think 1-8 hours) good luck with it.
A fuse blown - caused by current and not voltage! When there is a short circuit occurs the current flowing through the fuse exceeded the rated value - resulted in a blown fuse.

If the voltage output of the alternator is set too high, the first casualty will be lighting system - the bulbs blown regularly!

Think carefully when it happened - when you operate the lighter? using the auxiliary socket? wiper? horn?.....

Never replace the fuse with a jumper wire, you may have an electrical fire in your car! Don't mess around with electricity even it is just 12 Volts!

  • Replaceing a fuse! Please help! One of my fuse's went out in my town house!?

my neighbor parties all night and is never home BUT the power supply main shut off is in his house/garage... Can I change the fuse without turning that off? What if I unplug everything in my house? I have a 2 and 4 year old with the flu and they are so scared. PLEASE HELP! I have been on hold with PG%26amp;e for over 2 hours! Will I really get fried if I change it?
Replaceing a fuse! Please help! One of my fuse's went out in my town house!?
you can change it without getting fried. If it is the screw in kind with a base like on a screw in light bulb, you are ok. If it is held in place by clips like in car fuse box, you should use plastic fuse pullers to remove and insert it.

If you don't know if you can change it, then you probably don't have a spare replacement there either. Make sure you change it with the same size and rating. Normally you'd go to the hardware store to get it, but if it is late you can probably get it at a 24 hour drugstore or supermarket.
Replaceing a fuse! Please help! One of my fuse's went out in my town house!?
Above poster is right so don't be afraid to change it yourself as long as you are careful that you only handle the fuses and you have shoes on.

No need to unplug stuff. It will be the same as switching off a light or the circuit it is connected to until you replace it with the good fuse. Don't be afraid because the kids will react afraid also. Relax and chill.
If the fuse is a the type that screws in you can safely remove it by turning it counterclockwise. However, you should turn off things like lights, curlling irons, hair dryers before installing the new fuse. If changing the fuse requires you to open the electrical box exposing the wires, you should not attempt to change it. Never remove a fuse that requires the use of any tools unless you know what you are doing. You could indeed cause a short which could harm you or even kill you.

2 days ago, my chk eng light came on. Scan tool showed code p0440, i found a fuse that was blown.?

The fuse was the canister vent valve, exhaust oxygen sensor. The car wont start. When i changed the fuse it started, but blew again. Also the remote key does not lock or unlock the doors. Does anyone know why?
2 days ago, my chk eng light came on. Scan tool showed code p0440, i found a fuse that was blown.?
Sounds like a wiring issue. Anytime you replace a fuse and it blows again, that means it is not properly grounded. You'll have to find the ground that the fuse is linked too and reground it....I know, easier said than done. Replace your gas cap just to be sure. Have you noticed a stronger exhaust smell lately? Could be your emissions and need to get that fixed quick. Bad emissions kills your fuel mileage. As for the key, make sure that tiny little battery is good inside the clicker. Autozone has testers for these things so try that. Does the manual locks work? If they do then it's probably your clicker.

P0440 Evaporative Emission Control System Malfunction

The fuse blowing is causing that code, but you will need to find and repair the short that is causing the fuse to blow.

Chances are the battery in your remote is dead. Replace the battery and reprogram the remote.
you don't have an open like the other answerer suggests. You have a short to ground. (the wire feeding power to the circuit in question has been grounded before the load, causing the circuit protection to trip, in this case a fuse)

Your short may be in the wires feeding the vent valve or the vent valve itself. Unplug the vent valve, then replace the fuse. If it blows again, take a close look at the wires that go from the fuse block to the valve connector. One of them may be exposed and shorting to either the chassis or another wire in the harness.

If it does not blow the fuse, see what happens if you plug in the vent valve... if it blows, you know the valve itself is faulty. There are diagnostic ways to tell if it's bad without going through fuses, but honestly, this is the easiest way to do it.

If this vehicle has been in a recent accident, at times wire looms get crushed in the damage, and wires get pinched together. This can cause all sorts of interesting symptoms with seemingly no connection. I'd check in the area of the impact, if that's the case.

Will Amp Power On If The Fuse Under The Hood Is Blown?

My car stereo just stopped working, amp still powers on and speakers have little sound coming out of them. I checked the fuses on the amp, is it possible that the fuse under the hood is blown? Also I am not sure how to even change the type of fuse it takes, its is like 2 x 3 inches and is black and flat and I believe says 120a or 120 on it.... Where can I buy a replacement? And is this my problem?
Will Amp Power On If The Fuse Under The Hood Is Blown?
actually, it can in fact still turn on, some amps will %26quot;power up%26quot; with a ground and remote input only. In addition to this, a fuse has the ability to be %26quot;blown%26quot; to the point it will not feed all of the voltage across its element to the other side of the wire, but it sends enough to power on the amp. I have seen that happen more than once in 7 years of installing, although it is unlikely. The best idea would be to take a voltmeter to verify that there is sufficient voltage (around 12.6 or so with car off, and over 14 with car running) at the amp.

As far as your fuse goes, it sounds like you have either an ANL style fuse or a circuit breaker. If it is the ANL, and it is in fact blown, you can buy replacements at any car audio retailer, including Best Buy, etc. If it is a circuit breaker, there will be a lever to flick that resets it, and you have nothing to buy.

    good luck.
Will Amp Power On If The Fuse Under The Hood Is Blown?
no it willl not turn on. something else is wrong. Thwe amp may be damaged internally.

Tyre not inflating through cigarette lighter?

bought a 12v tyre inflator but isn't working. Am I meant to have the engine on so power it, I assume so. Tried it with it on and off and no power to the machine, doesn't make any noise at all, have plugged it into cig lighter, switched it on and nothing. Even changed fuse and nothing. The lighter powers other things but not this. I have a citroen C3. When somebody else tried theirs it worked for 2 seconds then broke. Do Citroens not like tyre inflators for some reason????

plug it in again and twist the plug around till it makes contact it will start ,

How do you change the primary battery fuse on 1998 f150?

I changed my alternator only after 1 1/2 years of replacing it. When I put in the new one, the battery was not being charged. The guys at Advanced Auto asked me if it was a Ford. I said yes, and he told me that I could have blown the fuse. If it is the Primary battery fuse, how do I know if it is blown?? Please help, I can't drive it anywhere to have someone do it.
How do you change the primary battery fuse on 1998 f150?
Okay, the last time I checked, that fuse would be in a box INSIDE of the engine compartment. Look near the battery first off. There should be a black box right next to it with white lettering on it. Those are the big fuses. Once opened, there will be a list of which fuse is for what thing. Remove the fuse and go get the new one. Remember to use di-electric grease when re-installing the fuse so to make a better power connection as well as easier installation and removal if necessary.
How do you change the primary battery fuse on 1998 f150?
Follow the main battery wire from the alternator back to the battery.. it will go under a cover on the passenger side before it heads to the battery.. under that cover (depending upon the year, there may be two.. a outer cover and a smaller cover where you psycially see the wires going in and out of that is taped) is a 175 amp fuse... it's about a $10 fuse... it's bolted in and removal of the battery cables to replace is neccesary

There are also a fuse from the dash to the alternator.. if that fuse is blown, it will cause same headaches...

Third thing is, I've had bad luck with some aftermarket alternators causing alternator light to stay on even as it is charging the battery among other things...

Check your fuses... then check the alternator.

  • What fuse do I change to fix the cig lighter and temp controls?

I have an 02 Chrysler Sebring. The cig lighter does not work. Also, last night the temperature controls went. I can only use the high setting when I put the heat or air on. The heater will not come on if I put it on low, medium, medium high... Nor will the lights around those setting come on. I hope it's just the fuses. Thanks
What fuse do I change to fix the cig lighter and temp controls?
Cig lighter and heater fan are on separate circuits.

The symptom of a fan which works on high but not on any other speed means the resistor assembly which varies the fan speed has failed, it is mounted in the heater plenum, close to the fan motor and it will have 4 heavy wires plugged into it. They are not expensive and easy to replace, if I remember correctly on that model you will find it right in front of the glove box with the box removed or flipped down (flex it to get it past the normal stop) \

The lights are part of the dash lighting and most likely are burned out if the other instrument lights are working normally.

As for the cigar lighter start by checking the fuses.

    Which Fuse?

Invest in a test light 5-10 $ at your local parts store. Using the test light check both sides of each fuse with the ignition on and the headlights on, the fuse which only lights the test light on one side is the bad one. I do not recommend the %26quot;pull and peer%26quot; method because I have encountered fuses which were physically broken but not visibly blown.

What fuse do I change to fix the cig lighter and temp controls?
if the fuse blew you wouldn't have any fan, you fan control probably went bad and needs replaced
Your fuse box should have a diagram with abbreviations. Make sure you buy the fuse with the correct voltage (ex. 10,15,20 etc.)

It is located under the rear seat ... open a rear door, grab the front portion of the rear seat bottom and sharply pull upward .... do this to the remaining side and then remove the seat bottom from the car. the battery is also located under the rear seat. to replace the seat bottom just make sure all the seat belt buckles are run through the slots on the seat bottom, line it up and then apply downward pressure to snap the seat back into place. hope this helps

I think a fuse has gone in my car...?

The radio was working fine until i tried to change a fuse as the lights on the speedo dont work, i couldnt get the lights on but when i started the engine the radio wont come on, the backlight of it comes on but there is no sound and no words on the display, what have I done?

do you know which fuse i need to change or a site which has a diagram for the fuse Box as it doesn't say which 1 is for the radio.

Any help will be much appreciated, however small.

    thank you.
I think a fuse has gone in my car...?
If the back light comes on then there is a chance that your radio is coded and by removing its fuse , you have locked it , anti theft thingy , normally the screen will ask for a code ,
I think a fuse has gone in my car...?
I don't think its a fuse that has blown. I think you need to find the programme code, and re-set it
Yes, it sounds as if a fuse has blown. There should be a diagram inside the fusebox or in your owner's manual. All cars have a different layout. You could try looking online for a fusebox diagram for your car. You didn't say what type of car it is so I wasn't able to search for one. Alternatively you could try the manufacturer's website or a local dealership for your brand of car.

I need a fuse diagram for a 1999 kia sportage?

You can get a Haynes or Chiltons Maintenance book at your local auto parts store. Should be one in there. But, buying a new owners manual would be cheaper.

Why would the brake lights stay on?

The car is a 1998 Ford Escort and the brake lights stay on. Tried pumping the brake pedal and changing the fuse but they still stay on...Any ideas as to what's going on here and if you know, is it an easy do it yourself and if not, how much would it be to fix it.
Why would the brake lights stay on?
the switch above the brake pedal could be stuck on and is not able to free itself, that should be easy to replace, try with a small pointy pair of plyers to free it,
Why would the brake lights stay on?
    check brake light switch
Look under the dash , just off the brake pedal for a switch, see if

moisture and dust/dirt ( whatever ) is keeping it from springing back.

It could be the internal workings of the switch as well..

You may also want to check the connectors at the rear tail lights to

see if wiring or contacts may have melted together, possibly by

holding your foot on the brake pedal for an over-extended period

    of time.
Check your brakes. My wife had the same problem %26amp; turned out both her rotors %26amp; pads needed to be replaced in the front.

  • Im having a problem with my fuse box ..... i think?

i have 4 electrical outlets that do not work i have changed the outlets and checked for power but nothings coming through the outlets. could it be the fuse box ? if so hows best to check and change the fuse?
Im having a problem with my fuse box ..... i think?
Yes, it could very well be the fuse/breaker box. First turn the suspected breaker to the %26quot;off%26quot; position then back to the %26quot;on%26quot; position. If the breaker was tripped, this will allow you to restore power to the circuits (provided there are no electrical shorts or grounds in the circuit). If resetting the breaker does not restore power, it may well be that the breaker has failed mechanically and will need to be replaced. Do NOT attempt to do this yourself unless you are well versed in electrical systems! If it is a fuse box, look closely at the fuse itself. Most fuses will have a small %26quot;window%26quot; you can see inside through. Fuses fail for 3 reasons. First reason is more current (amperage) flowing through the element for an extended period of time, heating the element to the point of melting and flowing apart. That could be because you have too many things plugged into the circuit and you are drawing too much current. Second reason is an uncontrolled flow of amperage due to a short circuit or ground. In that case the amperage is extremely high and causes the element to flash into a vapor form. If it opened because of too much current being drawn the element will have the appearance of having melted. There will be what appears to be a drop of hardened element material visible. If the fuse opened because of a short circuit the window will have small black spatterings on it showing that it flashed into vapor from the excess amperage flowing through it. The third thing is old age. As conducting materials are energized and deenergized the current flowing through heats the material up. Over extended periods of time this can cause the element to fail from fatigue.
Im having a problem with my fuse box ..... i think?
Get a voltage tester and learn how to operate it. In general, multiple outages are caused by one of 3 things.

    1. A bad (open) fuse/ circuit breaker.

    2. A tripped GFCI outlet in the home.

    3. A wire that is not connected usually in a connection box or outlet box nearest the first of the dead circuits.

If you are not able to locate the problem, call a qualified professional electrician to do the work.
if you have checked all the above mentioned then hope you have a multi meter, cause you'll need one and if you have one then 1st check the fuses to see if they sre any good, then check the box to see if you have power coming into it from the main, should have 120volts coming into where the fuse screws into, put the red probe on the black wire going into the fuse holder and the black wire on the white wire that's connected to the common leg should be several white wires connected to the same leg or bar if you have power there then its time to call an electrician
To prevent electrical shock, turn off the circuit breaker to remove all power to this circuit before troubleshooting. A quick list of things to check:

Check all circuit breakers in the electrical panel...turn them all off, then on.

Check all GFCI receptacles and make sure the Reset button is pressed and set.

Go to a receptacle in the room that DOES work. Remove receptacle and inspect wiring for loose wires and continue around the room until the problem receptacle is found.

My home air conditioner keeps blowing fuses.I changed them twice since Jun 1 already & they blew again today?

Every summer we have to change the fuse within the first week or two of turning on the a/c. This year the fuses have blown three times in less than a month. The coil was cleaned last July when the pipe kept freezing up. This is not a heat pump. We have a propane furnace.
My home air conditioner keeps blowing fuses.I changed them twice since Jun 1 already %26amp; they blew again today?
It is customary to protect a circuit for a 240v a/c unit with breakers at the panel, and a fused safety disconnect switch at or near the unit. If your unit is blowing 30 amp fuses, it could be several things. 1) you are using non-time lag fuses. The correct fuse type should be a time lag fuse. These fuses are rated to handle the %26quot;inrush%26quot; or short term high current draw required for the compressor to start. non-time fuses will blow under this kind of application. 2) The fuse holders in the safety disconnect switch are dirty, corroded, or damaged from overheating. If a fuse holder gets overheated or dirty, it won't make sufficient contact with the fuse ferrules, causing them to get very hot. This often results in the fuses failing internally, and in essence 'blowing'. Make sure the contacts where the fuse goes are clean and not discolored from overheating. 3) Your a/c unit may have a problem with the compressor, such as sluggish starting, or problems with the freon path, causing high compressor loading. This will cause the fuses to blow. In that case, you will need to have your a/c unit serviced.

    Hope that helps.

Residential central AC systems, even newer ones, have a fuse block with two fuses (typically) located in the electrical box outside near the condenser unit. This is in addition to the circuit breaker located in the breaker box.

Simple, really. You need circuit breakers and more juice! 20/20 wiring at least. Your present electrical output cannot support the amount of electrical current your air conditioner is demanding to perform. This can be dangerous! Better have it corrected to prevent possibility of future overloading and, God forbid, fire!
i am wondering why a house that is 8 yrs old would have fuses, but the other answer is right, make sure the fuses are rated for more amps than what the a/c draws. also, make sure there is nothing else drawing current on teh same circuit-amps from something else would add to the total on the circuit. if the fuse is rated high enough, then you may want to try a time-delay fuse, which allows for a surge with out blowing. when a motor starts it takes more amps than when it is running. if that doesn't fix it, i think you have to spend the big bucks and call in a pro...
Sounds like either there is something wrong with the AC causing it to draw too much electricity...or the AC takes more juice than your fuzes are rated for. If your A/c draws 20 amps and you have 15 amp fuzes...well ...guess what?
    call the guy duh
Could be a lot of things, first check to see if you have the right size fuse. The problem you are having could easily be caused by too low of amperage on the fuse. An old motor on the unit could also cause excessive power draw and blow the fuses.

BTW, why do you still have fuses? May be time to have an electrician give you a quote on putting in circuit breakers.

How much would this cost? Tune up and fuse?

I have a 96 Pontiac Grand AM SE..I'm going to get a tune up..I won't need the air/fuel filter changed because I just got those changed about a month ago..so I would probably just need my spark plugs/wires changed? Also, I need a fuse changed...nothing major, just my lights where my heater buttons won't light up and it'd be a lot easier if they DID! so about how much would this cost me for spark plugs and wires re-done..and a new fuse? I live in Ohio and my car has about 125,XXX miles on it
How much would this cost? Tune up and fuse?
It would depend on the engine size,a ball park figure;$75-$150.00

It might be more if eng.diagnostics are done be fore the work, because a

tune up may not be what you need.

Your fuse box will have a layout of your fuses printed on the cover.

You can find the right fuse and test with a test light. It is possible

that it may be a bulb behind the heater control panel.

How much would this cost? Tune up and fuse?
bout $100-140, but if you are a bit mechanicly inclined , id recommend doing the work your self , that job on that car is very very easy, specially if its the 4 cylinder, the parts will cost u at auto zone about $40, and even the haynes auto book(repair manual) is there for that car and thats $15 and it will tell you how to do everything to that car with pics and diagrams, about the heater lights , sometimes they get loose , try giving the heater some love taps, the light just might go back on, i dont think its the fuse, i think its the bulb
The spare part price of one spark plug is several bucks according to differrent brand. Labor fee is about half hour to one hour I guess.

I have no idea about your wires.

    It is better if you know the model of the fuse. You can ask %26quot;Auto zone%26quot;

the price of a new fuse.

How do you change the power outlet in a 2002 Dodge Neon?
the back part of it screws off and that separates the two parts, disconnect the wire from it and the one you buy for a replacement will go in exactly like the old one came out,be sure and hook the ground wire back up on it or else it wont work right,it may just be the ground wire that's loose on it now, that may be all that's wrong with it,good luck.

If it has a removable faceplate those are known to create dirty connections over time. Remove the faceplate and find the contacts...use rubbing alcohol and a q-tip as needed...either that or the wiring harness is coming apart in the back and creating a bad connection as the radio moves just a little bit as a button is pushed possibly...i'd check these first before buying anything.

I have a 97 Chrysler LHS My automatic windows quit working. I changed the fuse out but that didnt work.?

If it's not the fuse what could it be? Need help!!
I have a 97 Chrysler LHS My automatic windows quit working. I changed the fuse out but that didnt work.?
Do you mean they don't move electrically at all or the automatic down/up doesn't function. If it's the automatic down, it might be the body computer. If it's the motor function. it's probably the relays or the actual motors. It could be the switch in the driver's door as well. Do the other windows roll down if you use the switches at each individual door? If so, it's the master switch on the driver's door. Just take it to an auto electric shop or an auto glass place. It shouldn't be too expensive. They can put in used or rebuilt parts.

I'd already changed my battery and rectifier.
CBR 900RRS year 95 model, Fuse keeps blowing out.. Help?
It sounds like a faulty connection somewhere or maybe a split wire. I'm afraid you're going to have to inspect each and every wire going backwards from the fuse to the clocks. You did check that a 10 amp was the correct fuse in the first place didn't you?

    Fuse or cigarette lighter?

So I was having a problem with my cigarette lighter. So, I changed the fuse, and it worked again. Thing is, it will only work one time. Once I unplugged something, the fuse blows. This has happened several times, and I鈥檝e put a new fuse in each time. This leads me to believe the problem is my cigarette lighter, not my fuse. If this is the case, how can I fix this and if I can鈥檛 do it myself, how much would it cost to get it done at a shop?
    Fuse or cigarette lighter?
Take a cig lighter out of a friends car and put it in yours, if it pops the fuse then you know it's something else. If it doesnt then go to a parts house and buy a new one, they are very cheap.
    Fuse or cigarette lighter?
They are a big coil spring that causes resistance from being shorted out and heat up. When they get old the spring warps and shorts out on itself. This increased the load on your electrical system and blows the fuse.

    Basically get a new lighter.

Can anybody tell me, where is the location of the inner fuse box of a Hyundai Matrix?

For changing the fuse of the cigarette lighter in the vehicle.
Can anybody tell me, where is the location of the inner fuse box of a Hyundai Matrix?
    Hyundai doesn't make the Matrix.
Can anybody tell me, where is the location of the inner fuse box of a Hyundai Matrix?
It's not exact, but as I know, it is left side of fascia and under the steering wheel, about the upper side of your left knee.
When you open the driver door, there is a removable panel closest to the door hinge. You should see a little handle to assist you with pulling the panel off. The fuse box is behind the panel.

  • Anyone know where inside an IBM Think pad 600X the fuse is located? My laptop suffered some water damage.?

I woke up one morning to a big bad fire. With my first reaction being to throw a bucket of water on the fire. I quickly realized (as I was throwing my bucket) that my laptop was in the way. I could say that the laptop is gone and I will probably be buying a new one. But for the sake of being a guy and boys will play with their toys. Should anyone know where the fuse is located I'm wondering if I can just change the fuse and the power supply to get the laptop running. How do you change a fuse in a maxima?

Find the fuse box that has the blown fuse in it,I believe you can find one of the fuse boxes on the passengers side of the center console .just pop the cover off ,then find the bad fuse and replace it with a new fuse,There might be another fuse box under the hood.

How to change a consumer unit / fuse box?

Does anyone know how a DIYer like myself can replace the consumer unit in my house. I have an old fashioned fusebox at the moment.

I'm confident I can wire it up properly but I'd need to know how to turn off the supply to the house.

    Any thoughts.
How to change a consumer unit / fuse box?
You will f**k up if you do this, to isolate the tails into your fuse board you have to cut and then open the meter which IS ILLEGAL if you arent working for an authorised person.

The cut outs are r at 240v 100/80/60A which will kill you on contact im not telling a unqualified potentially incompetent person how to do this job!
How to change a consumer unit / fuse box?
If you can't turn off the supply to your house then I think you need to get a qualified electrician to do the work for you.
    You'll need counciling permission
If think that it might be worth ignoring the UK regulations and still do it yourself. Firstly you could have difficulty reselling your house if you cannot prove that the work was done by a qualified person. Secondly if anything were to go wrong and you tried to make an insurance claim the assessor could point out that you had broken the terms of your policy. He would just walk away. I could go on with lots of examples. Take the earlier advice get someone qualified.
I don't know why some people get it into their heads to attempt stupid things. The work you plan to do is illegal, not allowed and downright dangerous. I get so angry with people like you. I have lots of thoughts but they can't be printed here I'm afraid.
I think you will find it is now illegal for a non qualified person to carry out such work, any %26quot;accidents%26quot; will no doubt void your insurance. Use the services of a qualified Electrician
The UK building code now states that you need to either get a qualified electrician to carry out the work, or at least sign off the work as safe before you can turn it back on again.

If you do not do this, your home insurance will be invalid and you cannot sell your house until either is done. Either way, you can't change sockets in your kitchen these days without one of the above being done. My guess is, if you need to ask the question, you shouldn't be doing it.
You need to get a permit and call your local electric company to come and turn off your main. They will do the disconnect outside and will come back to re connect when you call them.

DO NOT TRY THIS WITHOUT A PERMIT AAAND POWER SHUT OFF!!!!!!
You will need a permit on this one. I strongly suggest that you get an electrician to do this work. If you make a mistake with the imcoming line, there is no fuse till you get back to the transformer and that is a lot of power to take to ground.

You will also void your insurance if you do the work without the permit.

It is a good idea, but hand this one off to a professional.
I am assuming you are in the UK.

The consumer unit is the property of your local electricity company. As such, you must not do ANY work at all to it.

It is dangerous to even consider doing something like this yourself. You are neither qualified nor insured to conduct such work. DIY on the mains electricity supply to your home is a seriously bad idea.

You should contact your local electricity company and request one of their engineers to come out and do the work for you. They will assess the equipment themselves and organise the replacement if they think it really is necessary to do so. Also, there will be no cost to you for this service.
    Hire it done!
This is definitely not a DIYer project, first of all the power company will require a reason to disconnect and the finished job will have to be inspected, a licensed electrician is the only person allowed to do this change.Call an electrician!!
yes my thoughts are DON'T do it your gong to die. lol You must have a trained electrician complete this work.....
You can't begin to do this yourself you have no idea of what's involved.

Before a P registered electrician can even start on the job he will have to test your whole house electrics to make sure there are no other problems lurking in the wings. You need specialist equipment for this and know-how to use it and interprete the results.

That's why he spent years training to do this and had to pass exams on the way.

Leave it to the professionals, he will then leave you with a certificate to prove it has been done correctly. This can then be passed on should you intend to sell your property at a later date.

My advice to you is to get three quotes from known or recommended electricians.

Don't attempt it yourself you will only cost you more in the long run.
do not touch it.get a qualified electrician.under new regulations any damage to life or property will be your sole responsibility and you will be uninsured.
Keep your cottonpicking hands out... you will probably end up by setting the house on fire and insurance won't cover you for being a pratt, get in a man who is qualified and sleep well until you are ninety with no fear of the little known god of retrebutions comming and getting you and yours. ELECTRICITY BITES.......................
if you are in the uk you must use a part P registered electrician
Go outside. Do you see an electrical meter/hour counter. Big glass bowl looking thing. You need open the box its in and pull that out. Done power is off in your house. But allways double check to see if your safe. Keep house panel off when removing replacing the meter.
Don't try it yourself, its not hard if you know what your doing but the problem is you must break the electricity boards seals to remove the main fuse which feeds the consumer unit.
Changing a consumer unit is a fairly straightforward job providing you have some spare on the wires from all the circuits because you will find that a modern consumer unit with an RCCD will be wired differently than your existing one.

Having said that to complete the job you will need to have the electrical supply from the Electricity Board main supply fuse turned off, this is normally sealed. You can arrange for them to come along isolate the supply so you can do the job and then come back and reinstate the supply when you've finished.

The real problem you will face is that they will not re-instate the supply without a certificate from an approved electrician.

An electrician will probably do the job for about 拢300-00p which would include the new consumer unit

How do i fix a blinker that blinks really fast?

when i turn on my blinker in my 1996 honda accord lx the blinker blinks really really fast any ideas on how to fix it? or what the problem could be..ive changed fuses and nothing happened..
How do i fix a blinker that blinks really fast?
One of your turn signal light bulbs is out. Turn on the signal and step outside your car and you'll be able to see which one.
How do i fix a blinker that blinks really fast?
    break it

    it should stop blinking
Deal with it. Just hope they guy behind you doesn't have epilepsiy.
You don't have to its optional If you want to fix it go to a mechanic
Most likely a burnt out turn signal bulb. Check all lights and replace the one that doesnt work.
It means the light's about to go out. Try changing the bulb.
A blinker blink really fast typically means you have a blinker not working. Could just be a burned out bulb. Turn on your hazardous lights and walk around the car to find which blinker isnt working.
One of your light bulbs is about to go out. I would replace them and you should be good to go.
if all your bubs blink but just too fast you need to get a flasher its the round thingy usually in the fuse panel their cheap it will fix your problem
If all the lights are working you can buy a heavy duty flasher unit which has a higher rate of resistance. that will slow your blinker lights down. The blinker unit is located on the fuse panel.
one of the bulbs is broken! check which one and change it
If you turn on your turn signal, and check from out side you might notice that one is not working out there, rapid blinking means there is a bulb out.
    change the flasher.

Im trying to install a radio in a 95 jeep cherokee. All the wires are connected right. still nothing?

I have no power at all to the radio. changed fuses, checked wires...cant figure out where to go from here. any ideas...thanks
Im trying to install a radio in a 95 jeep cherokee. All the wires are connected right. still nothing?
kind of hard to diagnose with out being there but if you have a voltage meter, youi can test to see if the

    1. constant has power ( usually solid yellow i think) the thing should atleast light up with a time or something.

i would just check and make sure that the ground is soild, and both the constant and the ignition chords are secure those are the only ones that realy control the power to the unit.

if the fusein the back of the radio is good and the cars raido fuse and you can check and actually see that there is power to the unit then you have a bad stero.

also I dont know exactly what type of stero your installing so it may take more stuff. worst case when all the wires are out, hook up the old unit real fast to see if it works.
Im trying to install a radio in a 95 jeep cherokee. All the wires are connected right. still nothing?
check the fuse in your power line.
Does the radio have an inline fuse holder? may be blown. Test for power at the power wire going to the radio and make sure you have a good ground also. Radio may also have an internal fuse.

    There is no fuse.

    Electrical fuse help?

I want to know how I change a fuse i believe is broke on a 1987 mercedes (2.3) 190 E . The gas gage and cooling gage don't work any more. this happen about a week ago. And I don't know where the fuse box is.
    Electrical fuse help?
The fuse box is either under the hood or underneath the steeringwheel. Look for a panel that pulls off.
    Electrical fuse help?
Probably in the engine compartment on the drivers side, but you should confirm if you have the owners manual. The fuses are the European type with a ceramic holder and are not glass like the American type
Usually on Mercedes of that age the general fuse box is in the engine compartment (under the hood). It is a long black plastic covered rectangular box just behind the battery. But it might be just in front of the brake fluid compartment. I can't tell for your specfic model... Sorry. In any case all fuses are in the engine compartment on those model years. On electronic injection and other models there could be more than one fuse box.
Answer -- under the hood left side.passenger,,,,,,

the main fuse box for it in under the hood ,,there is a black plastic box out there and it marked fuse panel,,and this car may have a small one right under the dash,,or near the glove box area also,,once you find the box look for the fuse marked instruments ,and remove it,,and check it,,you will see a burned spot in the middle of it,,there should be a spare fuse for it on the cover,,they usually give you a few spares for it,,just replace it,,and everything should work again,,if it keeps blowing them it may need to be checked out,,it may have a short in it somewhere,,i own a repair shop,,and do this for a living,,i hope this help,s.

How do you change an electrical box fuse?

A fuse blew out in my house tonight. I noticed the fuse was tripped in the fuse box but when I tried to flip it back it sparks a little and trips back to the red.

I know how to pop out the cartridge that the fuse is in but I dont see an easy way to open up the cartridge. Do you replace the entire cartridge or just the fuse itself?
How do you change an electrical box fuse?
you will have to repalce the entire cartridge. make sure you get the same amp rating. they do make fuses that have the insides replaceable but you usually dont see them on a residential home. take the fuse with you to replace so you can match it up lowes or a home depot can help you tomorrow good luck :0)
How do you change an electrical box fuse?
I think usually you replace the cartridge. They are not very expensive just make sure you get the right amps.

The amps will be denoted by the number on the cartridge.
A fuse is round and screws in a circuit breaker is the thing you flip back and forth. Two different things. That is why it is very important not to listen to most people on here giving advice. If you are careful you do not need to kill the main breaker (all the power) first remove the panel box face plate (thing with the door on it) angle out the breaker (snaps out) and bring to your local hardware store match amp size and NAME of breaker box! Snap the new one back in. Good luck

Will upgrading my 100A fuse to a 150A fuse damage my amp?

Or what about changing the two 35A fuses on the amp to bigger fuses? Would this give me more power? And if so will it damage anything? Thanks!
Will upgrading my 100A fuse to a 150A fuse damage my amp?
A bigger fuse doesn't give more power. What it does do is raise the over load current rating causing more damage if the fuse needs to blow.

With two 35 amp fuses on the amp, the main fuse really needs to be 80 amps, not 100 amps.
Will upgrading my 100A fuse to a 150A fuse damage my amp?
Never use a larger-than-recommended fuse; if there's a problem with your amp, the larger fuse will allow more current to come through, frying the unit...

How much would it cost to fix a fuse line in a 1996 Camry?

About a year ago, my son put a penny in the cassette deck and shorted out a fuse in my car. I tried changing the fuse but that didn't work, upon further investigation I used a fuse checker and its completely dead. I tried reading a Hanes manual but it confused the hell out of me. So for a year, my radio, clock, cigarette lighter, and side mirrors will not work.

Could anyone give me a ballpark estimate on how much it would cost? I had quote of 300 bucks but that seemed a little much.
How much would it cost to fix a fuse line in a 1996 Camry?
whats happened is more than likley hes burnt the wire behind you fuse box you may pull it off and see/fix the problem if you dont see the burn you fall in to eletrical repair which is in most shops they have a min. eletrical charge say 2 or 3 hrs. labor rate the reason being that most of the time the %26quot;fix%26quot; is minior but you spend your time finding it example i had a cust. tow thier car in for not starting they just had it detailed and then it wouldnt start we go thru the fuel and fire test and have no fire long story short 5 hrs later we find a kill switch that was wired in and triped during the detail customer had car for yrs. and never knew it was there. hes a good cust. so i charged him 3 hrs and paid my tech 5 hrs. but yes 300.00 does sound kind of high unless they have to get into the harness

How do you replace the fuse in a AC/DC adaptor?
    you don't.

you replace the entire power supply.

The case is sealed. The %26quot;fuse%26quot; is actually a fused winding in the power transformer. If you were able to carefully break open the case, you would still have to replace the transformer or rewind it.
How do you replace the fuse in a AC/DC adaptor?
you cant. its all tangled and wired in the power adaptor so you need to replace the adaptor. if you were to try, you would have to wind up the fuse and get a new transformer
like it says on the label, that is a switching power supply (switched mode) which has a LOT more components in it that just a transformer, rectifier and fuse. I have been in the game for 30 years and never yet found one of these puppies that can be repaired - especially as the casing is ultrasonic welded together!

Central air conditioner fuse blown out?
HVAC Tech.: Your system could be overcharged, high head pressure will cause excessive amp draw. Dirty condenser coil same problem. There are a few possibilities here. First, you may have high starting amps on the compressor. You mentioned the run capacitor being changed. I'm not sure if you have a start capacitor, but that should also be checked. If you don't have a start capacitor, I would recommend having a hard start kit installed in the unit. It's basically a start capacitor with an internal relay to take it out of the circuit when the compressor is running, and wires up in parallel to the run capacitor. Also, check all of your line voltage wiring. Make sure all the wiring connections are tight (wire nuts, screw terminals, etc.), and that there's no issue with wiring insulation rubbing off from vibration, etc. Finally, check the points on the compressor contactor. If the contacts are black and pitting, it causes arcing, which means excessive amp draw through the contactor.
check terminal at the compressor if they are short out or burn out, if not your compressor need replace

Motorcycle tail light keep blowing fuse?

I have a 1999 Suzuki GSX 750 F which is in pretty good condition... for some reason the tail light fuse keeps blowing (and also when this goes the instrument panel lights do too - I assume they're on the same circuit) When I change tail light fuse, the tail light and instrument panel backlight come back on... this doesn't affect the head light, which works fine, or the brake light which also is fine...any ideas why the tail light fuse keeps blowing... and how can I fix it?
Motorcycle tail light keep blowing fuse?
Got to be a short to earth somewhere either the panel lights or the tail light, try the tail light first try moving wires about with ignition on and a new fuse in and see if it blows, then try the other way with the panel lights, all a process of elimination.
Motorcycle tail light keep blowing fuse?
You're in for some trial and error. Assuming you're using the correct fuse(should be 15 amp I think), there's gotta be some point in the wiring where it's most likely pinched and grounding out.

Does it have a any type of eliminator kit? A lot of people accidentally pinch wires installing those. If so, I'd check the wiring where the work for that was done. If there is no eliminator kit, or you still didn't locate the problem within the kit work..... Then you've really only got two options, both are unfortunately tedious and boring.

You could remove the light assemblies and see if it still blows. If not, put them back one at a time and see which specific part is triggering it... Or, it's time to just bite the bullet and trace all the wires for a grounded point.
You may have a short somewhere. I would check the wires carefully under the seat, it could be pitching by the seat or fuel tank.
Hi there, It sounds like one of the cables is shorting out, the probable cause is a wire that passes close or rests on a piece of metal (frame or bolt) and the outer plastic covering has slowly worn away exposing the wires inside. I had a wire like that and it drove me to distraction trying to trace the fault. Separate each wire from the light and slowly and methodically check all round the wire back to the next connection. Good luck.

    Why is the fuse blowing?

my son has a 6v go kart and it keeps blowing the fuse. when i change the fuse the little holder is really hot how do i stop it from blowing fuses and getting hot
    Why is the fuse blowing?
Motors generally blow fuses because of a shorted winding. It makes them draw more current, but they have less power.
    Why is the fuse blowing?
There is short circuit in the system

    Rectify it
    fix the low resistance path.

check the polarity are the batteries in the right way?

the description go cart is pretty vague but for his i will assume it is some sort of remote controll toy, the only reason for the fuse to blow is there must be a fault that allows too much current to flow.

Has it got wet try if so let it dry out or spray some oil onto the electrical components not the fuse holder otherwise all you can realy do is visually inspecting the wiring for damage or metal debris.

if you have a multimeter set it to ohms scale and test between positive and negitive before you do anything this will give you a base reading of the fault try some of the above things then test again the reading should be higher.

I don't have a manual for this car but I took a photo of the fuse box if anyone knows. Cheers

All of the fuses look intact - can you see any where the filament visible through the slot in the top of the plastic fuse body is broken?

Could be two unrelated problems. Time to get the multimeter out %26amp; start tracing wires.
I have a Peugeot 106 xn and I need to change the fuse for the horn and cigarette lighter. Anyone know which 1?
call the dealer they can tell you and if i were a betting man i would say the 20 amp fuse.
Normally there's a legend on the fuse-box cover, or by the fuse to show which fuse is allocated to the relevant items, if you can't get a handbook from a breakers, see if your local reference library has a haynes manual for this model and photocopy the relevant pages.

How can i test which element is broken on my oven?

I have an oven unit that has a main oven and a secondary one with combined grill. It blew a fuse the other day when i turned it on and now is not working, fuses changed of course. SO i think one of the heating elements has shorted but not sure which one, any tricks of the trade to work out which one is blown so i can order a replacement?
How can i test which element is broken on my oven?
look which turns red when you turn them on.

if you cannot see hold your hand at each side in turn and the one that is not working you wont be able to feel the heat as much as the sides that are working
How can i test which element is broken on my oven?
use a circuit meter. you can cobble one together using battery, torch bulb, and two wires or you should be able to buy a circuit testing screwdriver cheaply. test the circuits one by one(when it's switched off!)
Home electrics what a pain! Usually if an element blows, after changing the fuse it would blow again or the rest of the oven would work. If nothing except the clock is working, you may find the problem is something other than, or as well as something else.

Its all quite basic really, but can be difficult to describe to the inexperienced.

You need to UNPLUG it (sounds obvious, but safety first).

You need to purchase a cheap multimeter. Set it to ohms x 1.

Now you need to open your oven so that you can get to the switches. I suspect (as its quite common) that water has got into the switch, possibly when cleaning. A visual inspection will reveal if any switch has burnt itself out. If nothing obvious, test with the meter. If there is an open circuit, the meter will not read. With both probes across two points of the switch, you should get a reading in the on position, nothing in the off.

And you should get a variable reading if you're measuring across the thermostat. You can also use the meter for reading the elements. A good element will read almost short circuit, i.e nearly all the way over. A bad element will cause no movement. Hope i've given you a good idea of where to start, good luck!

could be the switch. more likely a scattered hub or bound up t case. mine took warn lockouts to make it dependable in 4wd
91 ford ranger 2.9 4x4 blowing fuses, the 4x4 is out rpms, battery, etc i changed the fuse and it blows it again?
This may help. Take out the burned fuse and install a test light across the empty fuse terminals. With the ignition key on, the test bulb will light up due to the short circuit causing the fuse to blow.

Now begin disconnecting devices which are powered by that particular fuse. Fuses usually power more than one device, so you will be unplugging several items, one at a time paying attention to the lighted bulb. You will need a schematic to determine all of the devices which are powered by that one fuse.

When you unplug something and the light goes out, then the short is in the device you unplugged. If you unplug every single electrical device powered by the fuse and the light still shines, then you have a short in the wiring harness and you must begin perfoming wiggle tests of the entire harness till you can make the light go out. If you wiggle the wiring and the light goes out the short is wherever you last wiggled the wire. Hope that info helps, I've found that to be the easiest way to find short circuits.

P.S. Yes, switches can go bad and cause a short circuit which will blow fuses and you can check the switch with a multimeter.

  • My wife hooked up that battery in her car backwards?

After she hooked the battery up backwards we had to have a 100 amp fuse changed. Now the radio, and maybe a few other things will not work. The car is a 98 tiburon fx. What could damage could she have done? It is an aftermarket radio.
My wife hooked up that battery in her car backwards?
    fried!
My wife hooked up that battery in her car backwards?
Check other smaller fuses that may have blown in the fuseblock inside the car. If the aftermarket radio was correctly installed, the fuse that it was connected to at tje fuseblock would be blown, or the fuse in the back of the radio itself could have blown. GOOD LUCK!
    burnt to a crisp
i own a repair shop, and its actually not burnt to crisp,,but it has some damage to it,first the alternator will need replaced, and its possible it tried to reverse the current for the vehicle,so it probably has blown a bunch of the smaller fuses for it,,you,ll have to check over every one of them and see ,usually when this happens it does reverse the current on most of the devices in the car,and they wont work anymore, this can be a costly repair to deal with, the last one i repaired like this took around 1500 bucks to get it right again, and it took a while to repair it also, but you may be looking at some major damage here, good luck,i hope this help,s.
ya right.. blame on the wife!!!

change fuses and relay and posible diodes in the circuit.

and don't make complaint inside the house.

    few bucks no big deal.
First why did you let your wife hook up the battery.where I come from that is mans job or at least a mechanic.Alternator, all the wiring, car burn to the ground, worse battery blown up in her face.May be the 100 amp fuse got the blunt of the power is the car running if it is only the 100 amp fuse and radio you are lucky very lucky the battery did not blow up.I guest she had a good reason to do as she did,but some one needs to show her things like this I have showed my wife how to jump a car off how to check her oil how to change a flat, and she has did it before I work away from home all week.
    all kinds of bad stuff.

ask yourself what are fuses for?

a fuse only does its job when it fails
YOU PROBABLY DID ALOT OF DAMAGE, THE ECU COULD HAVE SUFFER SOME DAMAGE, BUT BEFORE YOU REPLACE ANYTHING CHECK ALL THE FUSES, UNTIL U ARE SURE ALL OF THEM ARE GOOD, AFTER THAT CHECK IF THE CAR RUN'S FINE, IF IT IS THEN U ARE LUCKY...

How do i replace my dashboard lights on my '92 dodge dynasty?

I'm very inexperienced with fixing cars, can i get a very simple answer? Someone said it was as easy as changing a fuse, is that true?
How do i replace my dashboard lights on my '92 dodge dynasty?
the dash board lights are behind the dash so this means you have to remove the instrument cluster to replace them, and its not that easy of a job to do,once you get the dash out its as easy as changing a fuse, they just turn in and out, good luck.
How do i replace my dashboard lights on my '92 dodge dynasty?
not realy it harder then pay the 25 .00 and have it done
Grasp holder, turn counter clockwise, pull, remove light, toss, push in new light, grasp holder, put into hole, push in, turn clockwise and you're done, not much simpler than that!

Car Cigarette lighters won't work...and I've replaced the fuse (VW)?

So, about a month ago, some water was spilt inside my console (which hosts one of my car lighters). I looked where the fuses were, changed the fuse, and it still does not work on both car lighters (one is located near the arm rest). Any ideas on what I can do in short of going down to the dealership?
Car Cigarette lighters won't work...and I've replaced the fuse (VW)?
If it was not the fuse you may have burned up a wire. Your going to have to get in there and take a look. If your wires look good you might have to just replace the outlet. Goodluck
Car Cigarette lighters won't work...and I've replaced the fuse (VW)?
although I REALLY like the answer about it being a sign from above to quit smoking, the answer is a bit simpler.

When you spilled the water, you caused an arc between the power lead and the ground... this likely fused the wire to the ground and so it remains shorted even tho the water is gone.

The result is continually blown fuses or if the wire melted in the arc, there is no connection.

solution: check the lighter socket to see if the short or gap is there... if not, just run a replacement wire from the socket to the power sorce. Splice it in to the wire near the fuse box and isolate the portio with the short.

Then drop in a new fuse (or better still a circuit breaker type fusee) and presto.. all fixed.

    .
Get out your test light. Do you have power at the fuse? Through the fuse? Keep going until you don't have power, and fix whatever is between where you did and where you don't.
maybe it's a sign you should quit smoking!
Did you change the correct fuse? If neither are working, sounds like an issue with a fuse. Check the fuse again you replaced if it's the correct one. It may have blown again.

Spray a LITTLE wd-40 in the lighter that had the water spill in, and replace fuse again (if blown).

Wouldn't think there would be a fusible link inline to the fuse box, but it's a thought.

Make sure you don't have some type of circuit breaker under dash or hood that may have tripped.

Does anyone no how to change a fuse wire ?

Does anyone no how to change a fuse wire ?
I would suggest that if your system still has fuse wire in the consumer unit then it should be changed for a modern unit with cartridge fuses or circuit breakers, It may also be an indication that your house is in need of a rewire.

    Seek professional advice.

Main fuse box: switch OFF! Remove fure holder. If newish type, remove old fuse insert a new one of the correct ampage and plug back in. Switch fuse box back on.

If older 'wire' type. Switch OFF fuse box. remoce fuse. With a screwdriver, loosen screws at each end and remove wire. Fit a new length of wire - of the correct ampage, tighten screws to hold the new wire and plug back in before turning the box back on.

If Newest type of fuse box, just press the reset button.

PLUG Fuse: Open plug, remove old fuse, insert new fuse of correct ampage then put plug together.

IF FUSE BLOWS AGAIN: Unplug each appliance protected by the fuse and check it. IF YOU CAN'T RESET THE SYSTEM OR FUSE KEEPS BLOWING SEEK HELP FROM AN ELECTRICIAN%26gt; It really is quite simple.

  • Dashboard lights and position lights not working on Kia Sedona?

I have a 2004 Kia Sedona, have only had it for two weeks (bought it used) and now the dashboard lights, and position lights (P,R,N,D) do not light up at night. Have tried changing the fuses at the fuse box inside the van but this has not done anything. Not sure what else to do?
Dashboard lights and position lights not working on Kia Sedona?
In the engine compartment fuse box you have a diode the controls cluster and shifter light. replace that and will bring your lights back. known problem on Sedona's
Dashboard lights and position lights not working on Kia Sedona?
I am not very familiar with the KIA vehicles, but does the headlight switch turn? Some vehicles have a dimmer on the switch to dim the dash lights. It may have been turned off accidentally when you maybe cleaned the interior.
The gauges itself are more than likely out. Kia's are known for having many complaints of little things like this especially electrical from owners. you more than likely need a new set of gauges if all fuses including the fuses in the fuse box under your hood are still intact.

I have a 97 f250 wit a 351 and i drove it all this morning and got home and it wont start.... battery s good?
You don't say whether the engine cranks and just fails to run or does it not crank at all.

Different problems cause these to different results.

It won't start is not a symptom that can be analyzed.
I have a 97 f250 wit a 351 and i drove it all this morning and got home and it wont start.... battery s good?
ecm (electronic controll modual) little silver box on driver side under hood. Should be screwed in above wheel well. Very common for these to burn out. most likely your problem. very easy to do it yourself replace. can get a little expensive.
Hi, if you don`t have horn or headlights it is the ground wire. Fords often loose ground.
It's not related to your stereo. A lot of times cars break after turning them off...seriously....it sounds like it might be out of gas.

What wires can i hook up just to see if my cd player works? also the color of the wires?

cd player, my brother made it smoke out the back, just looks like a blown fuse though, im trying to see if it works once i change fuses someone please tell me what wires to connect, thanks.

by the way, its a clarion
What wires can i hook up just to see if my cd player works? also the color of the wires?
Just to test if it powers up, ground the black wire (to the chassis or a ground if your bench testing it), and give the yellow and red wires a 12v supply. If it powers up then you know that much is ok. Next you'll have to test the speaker wires, just connect each set to a test speaker to see if theres sound, doesn't matter which is negative or positive, since your just testing for output, just make sure to use the wires that are the same color (one solid, one with a stripe), now if all of the speaker outputs produce sound through the speaker, then you know that is ok. Hope this helps.
What wires can i hook up just to see if my cd player works? also the color of the wires?
Sorry, but if you saw smoke it's not gonna be the fuse.

But if you want to test it just connect your Accessory wire and Constant wire to a +12v supply (like the battery) and your Negative to the chassis or any ground. the head unit should come on then, but dont get your hopes up.

Where can i find a fuse box diagram for a 1997 ford f150 xlt?

Where can i find a fuse box diagram for a 1997 ford f150 xlt?
The owners manual is the only book that shows it the best, our Factory books just show where the circuits go to the number fuse, the owners has the best view of it all. Make sure that the fuses under the hood and under the dash are good with a test light, also the tiny fuses are easy to spread the terminals they go in.

How to change electronic fuse in a 2001 S430 (W220) Mercedes Benz?

Open your bonnet/hood, look anywhere near where the engine bay is close to the windshield/windscreen. Try to spot the fuses box; open it and look (maybe) under its cover, you should find a card with a list of all the fuses (numbered/labeled and what components they connect. Then look at the fuses themselves, they are all numbered/labeled.

To change them, simply lift them out of their spring-loaded terminals. Be careful, high voltages live in the area.
How to change electronic fuse in a 2001 S430 (W220) Mercedes Benz?
The electronic fuses in the W220 S Class have no serviceable parts. The %26quot;fuses%26quot; which are actually transistorized circuits that detect overload condition and switch off automatically, have property of self-resetting when the overload condition is gone.

Therefore, if a circuit protected by %26quot;electronic%26quot; fuse is not getting any power, then either the receiver still has short circuit/open circuit condition (yes! these are detected as well) or the output stage (the transistor or driver chip) in the electronic module has failed.

It would be helpful if you would state which kind of receiver you have trouble with.

Contrary to the other answer, there is NO dangerous voltages around the fuse boxes in the car (although they are present in few other places - ignition system, inside instrument cluster and so on). Accidental or deliberate contact with live conductor under such a low voltage (12v) is not likely to cause any harm.

can i fix it by just changing its fuse?
How can i fix an appliance if tap it in a wrong voltage source/?
That depend son what Voltage souce you tapped into.

Sometimes just replacing the fuse with an %26quot;exact%26quot; replacement will work. I would try that first. Hopefully the fuse did its job and saved extensive damage.

If the fuse blowsagain you might want to consider calling in a professional repair man for a free estimate or simply replacing the unit.

If I knew more about the appliance and/or the voltage it is, and what voltage it was tied into I could probably tell you more.

Looking to change the radio fuse on a 2002 Vauxhall Astra UK?

Where is it and what no of fuse is it..............
Looking to change the radio fuse on a 2002 Vauxhall Astra UK?
Fuse boxes are in two locations:-

    1) Under the steering column and stupidly awkward to reach (you have to be an Oompah Loompah to fit).

    2) Under the bonnet.

In both cases, once you take the cover of the fuse box off, there will be a raised image of the fuses and details of what fuse is for what on the inside of the casing.

Once you remove the fuse it will tell you what type to replace it with - but your manual will also tell you this.

Is it appropriate for an electrician to ask a customer out on a date?

Suppose a 30-year old single electrician does work for a customer (like changing a fuse box to a circuit breaker panel), and they have a single daughter living with them (early to mid 20's). Would it be OK for the electrician to ask their daughter out on a date after he finishes the work?
Is it appropriate for an electrician to ask a customer out on a date?
    Depends on the situation...

If you see her walking in the hall on her cell phone and she never talks to you and you interrupt her to ask her out... Very creepy.

If it's obvious she's interested in you and she makes efforts to approach you and you talk about stuff other than repairs, then tell her you're going out for coffee or a sandwich for lunch and if she's bored, she's welcome to come.

So long as you're genuine and think with your head and not your d*ck, couldn't hurt.
Is it appropriate for an electrician to ask a customer out on a date?
    NOT at the house.

Just a little unethical (business wise) and creepy (on a personal note) if you do it at the house.

If you see her out at the convenience store or the gas station, etc. Then there would be OK.

At the house your just looking like a creepy electrician. Elsewhere your that electrician that did work at my mom's house.
NNNNOOOO. But if you do not you will never know. What if you would end up with a family and kids from a single gesture. If you dont you would never know.
Creepy. I wouldn't count on any referrals or anyone feeling comfortable havingn you in their hose to do the work.

Probably more so if the daughter actually goes out with you.
Depends on what you're getting from her in any conversations.

I've only dated one sister of a customer in all my years of refurbishing. But the signals she was emitting and the talks we had were undeniably for us getting together.
Would it be OK for the electrician to ask their daughter out on a date after he finishes the work? NO!

I'm an married electrician. I go into people's houses as well. I have worked with this company for over 15 years. I have had my share of women flirt with me. That's all. Flirt. By %26quot;coming on%26quot; to a customer, I risk my marriage, family, my reputation as a %26quot;trust-worthy%26quot; service man, as well as the companies reputation. Granted, EVERY time I go into someone's house, I risk them crying %26quot;Wolf%26quot;. (rape)

If you're dead set about asking your customer's daughter out on a date, then you've already made up your mind, and nothing will change that. Since you are asking, that tells me that you haven't made up your mind and that there is a conflict of interests, and the morals that you were brought up with is in play.

    Answer these questions:

Has she presented an interest in you, or is it just %26quot;hopeful%26quot; thinking?

Would I improving my life by asking?

By asking her out, do I put her in a uncomfortable space?

Whatever you decide, remember this, YOU made the decision. Not her.

Good luck in all you do and may God bless.
depends on the situation,my current girlfriend was asked out by her sisters electrician. i think its wrong, but you cant blame a guy for trying. definitely no referrals for your guy

  • Fuse problem?

Toyota Corolla 1993. Tail lights (braking lights work) and front parking lights don't work. I changed the fuse, the parking lights turned on for 1 second and then off again. I checked the fuse and it had blown again. Like an idiot, I did it three more times all with the same result. Lights on for a second, blown fuse. What's wrong? I read something about changing a switch but I've no clue as to how that's done. Thanks in advance
    Fuse problem?
definitely a short somewhere after the fuse, i really dont think changing the combo switch will fix you problem. You will just have to take a look at the wiring to the parking lights either manually or via wiring diagram and check for any exposed wire
    Fuse problem?
taillight and brake lights are separate, do the taillights still work?

defective question...now we have to guess.

put a fat fuse in there 30 amp, if it blows instantly, there is a dead short, otherwise...

take all the taillight/park light bulbs out, turn on park light switch, check fuse, put new bulbs in one at a time, check fuse each time.
Check that the wires in the back of parking lights are not arcing out on the surrounding metal. Allwires should be covered by the plastic coating and should not have wires exposed. Could also obtain other parking lights from wreckers and try them to see if problem reoccurs as the insulation in your parkers might be defective.

Gauge lights and gear shifter lights have gone out. is it the fuse? or the bulb?

the lights for my gauges(fuel, speed) etc and the gear shifter lights (illuminating the letters) have gone out in my 94 geo prism. That happened yesterday. today my blinker lights stopped working so i checked the fuse and after changing the blinker fuse they worked again. I checked the fuse labeled gauge and it was fine. not sure whats wrong with these lights. is it a fuse i didnt look at or would the lights go out simultaneously on both the gauges and gears?
Gauge lights and gear shifter lights have gone out. is it the fuse? or the bulb?
The dash board lights are normally the first to go. This is a similar problem in last Sunday's Chicago Tribune Rides section with reader questions.
Gauge lights and gear shifter lights have gone out. is it the fuse? or the bulb?
When several items in a system go out, it's more than likely a short or a fuse. If you've checked the fuses then you may want to check the wiring. Something may of come loose or the bulbs may of all burned out simultaneously, I doubt it, but it can happen. Considering you recently had your blinkers go out because of a fuse, it sounds like you might of shorted something.
I would suspect you have a short or a ground problem if that fuse is ok. Try changing it just in case; I've had them look ok but not work.

Is it easy to change a fuse box breaker?

It is relatively easy actually..about 5 minutes worth..Here is a 9 minute video on step by step how to..Please remember use insulated tools..and even when you turn the main breaker off in the box..please be reminded..the wires above the main breaker coming into it are still live..for the main does not cut the %26quot;juice%26quot; off to the wires above the breaker feeding into it from the service panel...Here is a step by step video.best directions you can have..

Is it easy to change a fuse box breaker?
Call a qualified professional electrician to do a complete change of a fuse box to a breaker system. If you just need to replace one breaker in a panel, you should first turn off the power before you remove the cover to the panel. If it is just a breaker replacement, then you need to identify the brand and style of the breaker and the size needed. Something like a breaker change is easy for a qualified professional electrician, for a DIY it could be just a little more difficult. If you have never done it or seen it done, call a qualified professional to do the work in a safe manner. Done wrong a fire could start or you could injure yourself.
Is it easy to change a fuse box breaker?
Replacing breakers isn't too hard. Just make sure you're replacing them for the right reason. If the thing keeps tripping it might be a bad breaker and should ONLY be replaced with a breaker of the SAME size. So if you pull out a 15 amp breaker don't go putting a 20 amp breaker in. If the new breaker also trips you have more than a breaker problem, you have a wiring problem.

To replace the breaker first turn off the MAIN breaker. Then take the panel cover off. If it's a Cutler-Hammer or Siemens you'll also have to take the inside cover off. Now look at where the breaker connects to the bus. If it has a screw holding it in remove the screw and pull the breaker out gently. If it doesn't have a screw apply firm pressure to the inside edge of the breaker and pop it out. Be careful not to pull any wires off. Now there should be a screw on the bottom holding the wire onto the breaker. Loosen that and bring the breaker to the hardware store and get a direct replacement. Repeat steps above in reverse.

If you get a bigger breaker instead you have a good possibility of creating an electrical fire. Seriously. I've seen it. Don't be that guy. Fix it right or find someone who can.
You mean to change out the whole box or to redirect a circuit? The first is hard, the second pretty simple with a basic understanding. You can't just go sticking screwdrivers in there if you have no clue, though. The breaker itself is just a switch...

Why is my tale light fuse keeps blowing out every time i turn the switch on?

It started when one of my tale lights light bulb went out then after changing it then the fuse started blowing out.my truck is a 77 scotsdale chevy 1500.
Why is my tale light fuse keeps blowing out every time i turn the switch on?
pull the wiring harness off the back of the bulb and look inside it if you see corrosion (a green or rust color) then you know your connection is bad. if that is the case you will need to replace it by cutting the wires from the old one and installing a new one. remember to always pack you wiring harness with lithium grease every time you change your bulb this will prevent your contacts from corroding. also if you replace the harness connect the new harness with a wire connector do not use wire nuts or electrical tape as this will most often result in more corrosion at the connection site.
Why is my tale light fuse keeps blowing out every time i turn the switch on?
Remove the bulb and turn your switch back on if it blows your fuse then it sounds like maybe you installed the wrong bulb, make sure it has two prongs on the bottom side of the bulb....
Remove the bulb that you replaced and see if the fuse still blows. If it doesn't, put the bulb from the other side in and see if the light functions properly and doesn't blow the fuse. If this works, replace the bulb with a new one with same exact number as the one that you removed from the other side.

If the fuse still blows, carefully check the socket and associated wiring for a short circuit.
you must have a short in the wiring. probably along the frame because that,s where the wiring runs.
