can i rectify this with a transformer..or how do i change the fuse?
Got U.S desktop as xmas present.pluged in and heared a fuse blow.am in the UK.can i rectify this with a trans?
your PSU has just blown you need a new one.
there was a switch to change from the 120V to 240V. (A red one at the back usually were the 3 pin power plug is on the PSU)
having it on the 110V (american voltage) and it being powered up on a 240V line has blown it, nothing you can do but replace it.

if its the fuse on the plug you are talking about then open it up see what voltage it is and just buy another one ,easy .
you probably blowed the power box...buy a new one in your area and you'll be fine
Did you plug in with the original lead or with a new UK lead that you bought? My UK laptop works fine in New York but I have to use a local mains lead. If you've blown a fuse, you'd better call a sparky to come check things over - or a techie if you think the fuse blew inside the computer itself
Did you remember to change the voltage setting on the power supply?
Just replace the power supply with a UK version - they're cheap enough.

unfortunately, it will not be a fuse. As the UK mains voltage is higher than the US, the current required would be lower and therefore the fuse would not blow
If the power supply is not auto voltage sensing ( you can tell - if there is a little red switch near where you plug the power cord in, you have a manual voltage selector), and if the voltage was set to 110V then you will damaged the power supply.
You need to replace it with one of at least the same power rating ( 400 / 500 / 600W etc)
They are relatively easy to replace, but if in doubt get someone else to do it
We have a good laugh in the office when someone plugs in a PC returned from the US and the power supply goes bang :)
you're using a US pc in the UK.....did you remember to change the voltage????

2002 f150 power windows won't work after a jump start . I changed the fuse still won't work.?
My manual only shows a curcuit breaker for the windows . I tried there computer reset procedure that was in the manual as if I had replaced the battery and it still didnt work . After further investigating my wipers don't work or my interior lights . I checked all the fuse3s the were good but I replaced them anyway and still nothing is working . This is a crewcab f150 2002

It is probably a relay and mot a fuse. these are contained under the hood in a black box and will be clearly labeled.

if that light is the only thing that has gone out it probably isn't the fuse but the bulb......I believe the fuse is the same as the one for the power plug in the console!!! I think it will be labeled accy or rear cig lighter!!!

I had a 98 escort zx2, if I remember correctly it had 2 or 3 different fuse panels on it, one either under the dash on the drivers side or in the drivers side in dash where the door meets the dash itself, also one under the hood, as long as they have the covers then you should have all the information you would need to find and replace a fuse or flasher actuator. or you could try going to a local parts store autosone or oreilly's are the ones I prefer. tell them your turn signals are messed up and you think its a fuse. see if they could help find it. also if your hazard lights work then it may not be a fuse, possible it could be the turn signal switch in the steering wheel assembly. good luck with it. (you might try a local ford dealership for either some advice or a replacement owners manual)

How do I change the dashboard main light on my M reg Clio?
I have already tried changing the fuse and it is fine. It is the bulb that has gone. All the other lights are working fine. Its a really problem as i cna't see my spedo of a night :o(

I had the same problem, but fortunately for me, the police followed me the whole way home with their flashing lights so I could read the speedo.
Unfortunately, by the time I realised I could use their lights to check my speed with, I was travelling at twice the legal limit and swerving eratically as I struggled to check the speed.
Probably I would ask the bloke in the shop you got the bulb from - they are usually pretty cluey. Or plain stupid. Never in the middle. Never.
