Can I get electrocuted changing a type-t (edision) fuse?

Sometimes i have to kill power to parts of the house, so i unscrew the fuses. However, they visibly spark. So i was wondering if i touched the screw part of the fuse or anything metal on it couldn't i get electrocuted?

Yes, unless your wearing rubber gloves touching any of the metal can lead to a shock. .42 amps can kill so it doesn't take much.

If you have a main breaker at the top or side of the panel, its best to use it instead of unscrewing the fuses. Granted you'll kill power to the entire house but that's better than ending up 6' under.

Turn your electricity off before handling any part of it that is basic SAFETY!
IN order to get electrocuted you have to be grounded or touching something that is grounded, like a copper water line or anything metal. Be careful you don't get a do over in this.
You will not get electrocuted by touching the glass or porcelain part of the fuse. The reason for the spark is there is a load on the circuit. Breaking the circuit causes a spark. That has nothing to do with getting a shock. Keep your fingers out of the fuse socket in the box. The brass button at the bottom of the hole is live. The outer metal ring is not. Carry on.

Don't take electrical advise from the untrained and unqualified people on yahoo.
If you are still alive....I have used an insulated pair of pliers to do this..Wear gloves.%26amp; stand on a board..JUst don't use your body for a temporary fuse.

Excuse me..I thought you meant a cartridge type fuse..
